2013-11-16_1821It was axed, revived and axed again -but now The Killing (US) is set to be revived once more, this time by Netflix.

Season 4 of the US adaptation, cancelled by AMC in September, will become a Netflix original for a six-episode final instalment.

Stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, are under long-term deals and set to return. Deadline reports creator/executive producer Veena Sud is assembling a writing team, which is expected to begin work shortly. She will be joined by executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, who had been on the show since the first season, and two other writers.

“The rich, serialized storytelling in The Killing thrives on Netflix, and we believe that it is only fitting to give Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder a proper send off,” Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to offering fans – both existing and new – a series that we know is perfectly suited for on-demand viewing.”

Winning a fourth season will put the US ahead of the 3 seasons of Denmark’s original Forbrydelsen.

Production set to begin in Canada in February.

  1. I much preferred the US to the Scandi version. Linden and Holder are magnificent and the ending of series 3 was more credible in the US one I thought.

    Such wonderful, dark, television.

  2. I’ve enjoyed all 3 seasons of The Killing(US version) so far so this is great news! I was happy enough getting a third after it was cancelled at the end of season 2 so very grateful for a season 4. The two lead actors are both fantastic to watch.
