Tim wins Big Brother 2013

Bad boy Tim has won Nine's Reality series over nice-girl Jade.

timjadeTim Dormer has won Big Brother 2013.

He defeated Jade for the 2013 title.

As the winner of the 2013 series, he has won $250,000 cash and extended his moment in the Reality TV spotlight.

Bad boy Tim, 29, had polarised viewers with his outrageous “puppet-master” performance, but kept the conflict in the show right until the end. He didn’t mind saying admitting he was “stirring the pot” and had always had his eye on the prize.

“It was my dream, Big Brother,” he said.

BB Jade EvictionJade Albany Pietrantonio, 22, entered the house under the guise of a fake wedding, falling in love with muscle-laden Ed, but her fans embraced her “nice girl” image. For second place she won $10,000 and a TV.

BB Tahan Eviction - 3It was a shut-the-front-door moment when Tahan Lew-Fatt, 24, was the first to be eliminated. The girl from the Top End had won a legion of fans for speaking her mind and being blunt, but it wasn’t enough to take her to the final prize. But as third place she won $5,000.

Nine’s Reality series had its Grand Final Live on the Gold Coast after 101 days in the house. Final voting was Tim 36%, Jade 34% and Tahan 30%.

Crucial to Tim’s success was Nine’s strategic choice to employ a “Vote to Save” rather than “Vote to Evict.” In August producer Alex Mavroidakis told TV Tonight, “Our most hated housemate, and our most loved housemate, won the series last year. With Vote to Save, which is the best invention in the history of BB, our bigger characters that force a reaction will stay longer. If it was Vote to Evict we would have Tim in the press room now and Ben (2012) would have been the first evictee last year.”

Before they were separated, Jade and Tim watched the annual newsreel that brought them up to speed on global events: bushfires, a royal baby, sports winners and celebrity news.

“Tony Abbott is our prime minister. America went cuckoo and Miley Cyrus split from Liam Hemsworth!” they said.

Sonia KrugerThe show kicked off with former housemates dancing on stage (what the hell were those lights about?), watched on by Tim, Tahan and Jade via a giant video screen. Sonia Kruger spoke to each of the former housemates in various trios. The biggest response from the audience was a standing ovation for Ben, who couldn’t help but get teary.

2013-11-06_2142As a measure of the show’s social media popularity, several hashtags were trending while the show was on air: #teamtim, #BBGrandFinal, #bbaufinale, #BigBrother, #Tahan, #Tim, #teamtahan.

Sonia Kruger also confirmed the show’s return for 2014.

And a special shout out to the irrepressible Mike Goldman. Still doing it after 10 seasons!

  1. Tim definitely earned every cent! Overall despite being “family friendly” they did an excellent job this season. Great mix of characters with so many LOL moments, especially last week’s freeze task! I don’t laugh much but I must have woke the neighbors laughing at that late at night after work. More of those whimsical tasks for next year!

  2. So excited Tim won but absolutely totally disappointed there was no interview with him!!

Was dying to hear from him about so many things, not least his relationship with Ben.

Way too much waffle and no substance!! Was shocked it was cut off so quickly!

    Congrats Tim!

  3. So at what point do we start comparing the early promos saying that it could be people from all ages, occupations and backgrounds to what this season actually delivered?

Even though they were already about 10-15 minutes overtime they really should have given an extra 5 minutes for the final chat with the winner.

  4. I wanted Tahan to win but Tim was my second choice, Loved them both. (why Jade was even in the mix is one of life’s greatest mysteries)
After a rocky start with the dumb halfway house, this season turned out to be one of the most enjoyable. The housemates were great. Sonia has really settled into her hosting role and I have to admit, I’m really loving Nine’s format, which is much more lighthearted and fun.
One criticism for the finale was splitting the screen so often to catch the remaining housemates reactions, It seemed overdone this year and was for me distracting. Other than that, great season BB look forward to next year.

  5. Tim worked his butt off every day to keep things lively and interesting whereas Jade was a puppy dog who justcwent along for the ride. Justice was served.

And Big Brother outdid himself with the number snd hilarity of the pranks played. Best season since the first.

  6. @ Loz agreed 100% I’m glad Jade didn’t win,
Wanted either Tahan or Tim to win how boring old Jade “Oh So Cute” “Would We Work Outside” came in 2nd is rubbish most entertaining housemates were Tim & Tahan.

  7. That finale was boring – too much filler, Channel 9 promos, ads, Sonia blathering on etc.
And, the last 2 should have been Tim and Ben – you wonder how on earth Jade somehow ended up in the final 3.
Ben tearing up when he got the standing ovation – the absolute highlight of the whole thing

  8. Glad that Tim won in the end as he did pretty much make the show, but in am so disappointed in how the finale played out.

We didn’t see much of the previous housemates at all. Last year there was like two big dances with them I think and they even went back in the house. This year just a quick arrive on stage, few seconds chat and who they want to win.

Also how could they not have an interview with the winner? And show him some highlights? Did they really plan not to have an interview and talk about his relationships, etc in the house? Would have been great to see more from Jade too but at least she got to sit down and speak where all Tim got was told he won on stage again, then here’s your family and there’s the other housemates – the end.

  9. Actually David she was in the diary room at the start but I would have thought she would go in the house to greet the housemates or something similar, like Gretel has done in the past.

  10. People who say its rubbish obviously don’t get what it’s about.

I’m glad Jade didn’t win, so surprised she came second. Wanted Tahan to win but happy Tim did as he was the most entertaining housemate followed by Tahan.

  11. So Glad tim won! Been a fan of his since i started watching the show. He kept things super interesting and funny! Tahan was also a good housemate. Jade was nice but came across as boring and her romance with Ed was awkward but funny to watch. But if id had the choice i would much rather have swapped Jade for Ben in the final 3. 🙂
Also im very happy its coming back next year.
    Take that haters! Haha

  12. Have been embarrassingly addicted to Big Brother all year. It really is the best version now compared to it’s years on Ten. The only reason I was snookered into watching it is this year is because of all the funny set ups created by “Big Brother”. It’s what kept me hooked. Great casting. Great twists. It’s hard to rate who deserves to win Big Brother. It’s not like a singing competition. But really Tim was the most entertaining to watch. He really generated a lot of good content for the audience. . A very multi layered personality.

  13. Congratulations to Tim! He made the show this year. From his ‘moral dilemmas’ (ala ben & jerry’s icecream), Tim’s rocks and his constant stirring of the pot he made sure things were never dull. Congrats also to Jade for runner-up. Totally loved the show this year and can’t wait for next year! Sonia is fabulous and Mike as good as ever. Great show!

  14. I would have preferred to see Jade win (not to mention half a dozen eliminated housemates!) but Tim definitely played the game the best. But what was BB doing running 40+ mins over?! Live finales usually run over by 20+ mins, which is now days something to expect, but 40 is rediculous and should have been foreseen & reported!
