It’s Global Village, hosted by Silvio Rivier and it celebrates its 15th anniversary when it returns next Monday at 5:30pm.

Global Village travels to the far corners of the earth presenting travel stories unlike any other. With four million kilometres travelled and 160 countries visited this colourful series, presented and narrated by Silvio Rivier, reveals the lifestyles, traditions and hopes of an enormous range of people and cultures. Celebrating 15 years Global Village is now the longest running series on SBS.

Silvio Rivier presents the new look series beginning Monday 2 December. One-hour long in-depth episodes will be screened in two parts over two consecutive nights to commemorate the last 15 years. The first episode deals with the Brazilian mounted police whose animal of choice is not a horse but a water buffalo with enormous horns. As they patrol the wetland region of Parana, water buffaloes handle the terrain much better than horses. Then the protected species of the red crab migration on Christmas Island is explored with spectacular imagery.

“I’m thrilled to be able to bring these wonderful and often amazing stories into people’s homes”, says Silvio.

Silvio Rivier graduated as an opera singer in 1980 from the NSW Conservatorium of Music. He was the original presenter of SBS’s The Movie Show but later became an in-house producer and news and current affairs presenter. Silvio has also narrated many SBS documentaries before becoming the series producer and presenter of Global Village.
