Ashes gives Nine another summer win

Ratings: Nine has won another week of summer non-ratings thanks to The Ashes & Carols by Candelight.

2013-12-29_2252Nine has won another week of summer non-ratings thanks largely to big events: The Ashes series and Carols by Candelight.

Nine News (Saturday) topped the week with 1.5m viewers.

Session 3 of Saturday’s Ashes pulled the biggest audience at an impressive 1.49m viewers.

However Nine neglected to code Carols by Candlelight separately between Live and replay broadcasts, resulting in an average figure between both of 807,000 viewers -well down on the Live number of 1.48m viewers. This is the second year in a row Nine has made this mistake -perhaps the key personnel are on holidays. Luckily it didn’t affect their primetime share.

Cricket also helped TEN to resume third place in both network and primary channel figures.

Networks:
Nine: 29.5
Seven: 27.1
TEN: 19.1
ABC: 18.4
SBS: 5.9

Primary networks:
Nine: 22.3
Seven: 18.6
TEN: 13.4
ABC1: 12.9
SBS ONE: 4.7

Multichannels:
GO!: 4.4
7TWO: 4.3
7mate: 4.2
ABC2: 2.9
ELEVEN: 2.9
ONE: 2.9
GEM: 2.8
ABC News 24: 1.5
ABC3: 1.1
SBS 2: 1.0
NITV: 0.2

Nine easily won the demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Nine won Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, while Seven took Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. The ABC bettered TEN on Thursday and Saturday.

Seven was victorious in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide (by 0.1 point) while Nine owned Sydney and Melbourne.

  1. @ BigVic

Thanks for the heads up. I guess there’s even more reason not to watch the Big Bash. Although I personally don’t mind ads in the ad break. If that’s where they put them. However if it’s too repetitive I can get sick of some ads. As I’ve mentioned before I was put off the Big Bash from what I saw on other channels News highlights.

They certainly know how to get me not to watch some channels and shows. Which is too bad. I just can’t wait for the Winter Olympics to be over so I can watch some things again. But they’ll probably do something else to get me not to want to watch them much some other way unfortunately. Due to addiction to computer graphics and trickery. They aren’t the only ones though. Sigh.

  2. Glad to see fantastic ratings for Channel nine especially the 4th Test at the MCG. Meanwhile Channel TEN has found good ratings like the Big Bash League.

  3. @BigVic: Channel TEN sees the cricket as nothing more than a cross promotion platform. Last week when the ratings came out TEN’s boss said as much. It’s pathetic seeing the programs being spruiked on a virtual scoreboard on the ground. At least Richie and Tony sounded genuine when they integrated promotions into their commentary on Nine. TEN’s efforts just look tacky.

  4. Love the Big Bash on FTA TV but tired of the cross promotions to The Biggest Loser and Winter Olympics during every ad break.

TEN’s ratings have gone up and the Hopman Cup on 7mate in HD looks brilliant.
