Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries: Xmas special

It was a great idea to hold this episode over as a Festive occasion and we could do with a bit more of this from Aussie networks.

2013-12-18_2352ABC Christmas specials continue this weekend with the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Christmas special.

This is actually episode 13 of Season 2, but it was a great idea to hold it over as a Festive occasion. Very British tradition. We could do with a bit more of this, but commercial networks are reluctant because it’s non-ratings season.

The series is yet to be renewed so it’s unclear if this will be the final instalment or not. Hopefully not.

Phryne (Essie Davis), Dot (Ashleigh Cummings) and Dr Mac (Tammy MacIntosh) happily accompany Aunt Prudence (Miriam Margolyes) to a picturesque chalet to celebrate a white Christmas in July. The party arrives to find one of the residents dead – electrocuted while hanging festive lights. No more suspicious than the usual Miss Fisher investigation, until the body count starts to rapidly rise.

Heavy snowfalls and harsh weather trap them all with a murderer in their midst – and any one of them the next victim. It’s a race against time for Phryne and Jack to hunt down the culprit – and restore enough Christmas joy to take full advantage should they find themselves standing under that bunch of mistletoe!

Also stars Nathan Page, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Travis McMahon, Anthony Sharpe, Richard Bligh and Ruby Rees-Wemyss.

Guest stars Simon Burke, George Shevtsov, Alicia Gardiner, John Noble, Sylvie De Crespigny, Emily Milledge, Greg Saunders.

7:30pm Sunday, 22 December ABC1.

  1. As I’ve said before I hope they renew it. I read in an article that it has been sold to 120 “territories” around the world. I don’t know if the ABC sees any of that money. But it really does seem ludicrous for them not to make more if the writers and other people making it still want to do so. It’s the top show being made. Seemingly popular overseas. I just don’t get the logic of not making more.

Lastly I do want to say without knowing what happened with the ratings. I liked that they played a Christmas episode this year. Perfect choice of day and time as far as I’m concerned.

  2. Only just found out about this this morning, 12 hours too late. I thought the season had finished, thank god for iView.

Hope the show is renewed and yes I agree networks need to get over this petty ratings war and show quality programing in December/January.

Look at the US they aired several new run top networks shows last week including NCIS, episodes we won’t see until Jan/Feb when the Christmas eps will be on here for them.

  3. Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries are a truly great Australian show and hope that the ABC renews the series it would a shame to see in disappear unless another channel picks it up. Too good a show to let go.

  4. Why not renew Miss Fisher? Who ever made this decision? Really popular show and they are thinking of shelving it????
Renew Miss Fisher lots of people love it!!

  5. Don’t understand why the ABC are so down on having an older audience. Who the hell cares who’s watching as long as they watch? And lets face it, the ABC is never going to appeal to the majority of young people, so why are they bothering? The ABC is going to shoot itself in the foot. Whoever is making these stupid decisions needs to be replaced with someone who has a clue.

  6. Why are we even begging ABC for a third season? It makes no sense to shelve a popular program just to accommodate under performing ABC favourites and to roll out the same old British dramas.

And someone please tell the ABC that Miss Fisher has a wider demographic appeal than any of its programs. Miss Fisher is not Miss Marple!!
