The "Fifth Doctor" will host the musical concert in Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington.

2013-12-19_2204Doctor Who‘s Peter Davison, who appeared as the “Fifth Doctor” between 1981-1984, is heading to Australia and New Zealand next year for the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular.

He will host the show which will also feature specially filmed links from Fourth Doctor Tom Baker.

The return of the music event is based on the recent Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Proms in the UK.

“I am really looking forward to coming to Australia and New Zealand as part of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular tour, as well as coming face to face with any Daleks or Cybermen who may turn up along the way. The music of Doctor Who is amazing, and nothing can compare to hearing it performed ‘live’ by orchestras of the calibre of the Melbourne, Queensland and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras,” he said.

Ben Foster, who has orchestrated and conducted Murray Gold’s music for Doctor Who since 2005, is conducting.

“I am delighted to be back on tour with the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular. Doctor Who has been such a big part of my life for such a long time – it’s great to share this experience with so many fans,” he said.

The Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington concerts kick off Friday 31 January in Melbourne.
