Returning: Tour Down Under

Nine is set to screen the Santos Tour Down Under, in Adelaide in January, with Live coverage on GEM and evening highlights on Nine.

Commentating is broadcasting legend Phil Liggett, plus Paul Sherwen and Australian cycling expert Robbie McEwen.

Coverage of the opening round of the UCI WorldTour will commence with the People’s Choice Classic on Sunday, January 19, followed by Stages 1-6 of the Santos Tour Down Under from Tuesday, January 21.

As the world’s best road cyclists race through the streets of Adelaide, cycling fans will again see the action live on Gem. The Nine Network, which is broadcasting the event for the third time, will present 25 hours of Santos Tour Down Under action, showcasing the thrilling final two and a half hours of each of the first four stages on Gem.

To cap off an intense week of cycling the entire final two stages of the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under will be broadcast live on Saturday, January 25, from 11.30am AEDT on Nine and Sunday, January 26, from 12.30pm on Gem.

During Stages 1-4, the Santos Tour Down Under will also be covered in Nine News updates, as well as daily highlights packages on Nine.

Wide World of Sports reporter Tim Gilbert will host the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under for Gem and the Nine Network.

Nine Network Head of Sport, Steve Crawley, said: “In January the Nine Network and Gem will bring sports fans all the action from the largest cycling event in the Southern Hemisphere, and the biggest road race outside of Europe, covering a distance of over 875 kilometres. Viewers will get the chance to see elite athletes from all over the globe compete for prizemoney, UCI World Tour Points and the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under Ochre Leader’s Jersey.”

The Wide World of Sports website will provide complementary coverage of the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under, featuring live streaming from each stage, video highlights, interviews and features, the latest news and results, expert opinion and photo galleries from the race.
