  1. I think we have some Ten stooges on this blog? FKlein?

Biggest loser already seems to be suffering from oversupply of reality television on peak time viewing …..

I don’t think 3 commercial networks should be playing nothing but reality television at the same time ….

  2. I wish to thank Eleven for Sleepy Hollow. As well as the ABC for the News and most of the former The 7.30 Report.

I saw the new look for the News and I like the look of the show although it did seem a bit awkward for the host. As well as it causing him to show a bit of his leg.

Plus I have noticed the recent change with the “7.30” watermark up the top. In that it is more like Lateline that it disappears with the host being there and shows up usually when they aren’t. I like the change very much. I just wish next time there is a signature it is more solid and stylish like Lateline. I just find it comfortable.

As for the pop-up idea: I mentioned it elsewhere. I think it would be nicer for the viewers for them not to be there. But only if it can be proven that without them there is no harm done.

  3. Anyone with common sense would be aware that 10 needs new owners and production people who know what they’re doing. I gave up on them years ago when they attempted to force Above the Law upon an unsuspecting public. It was so bad even 10’s top personalities laughed at and criticised it.

They did get the BBL right and I praised them for it and I sincerely hope they don’t stuff up the winter Olympics, as I am looking forward to some of the events.

As for my opinions of many of their programs, simply look at the ratings, they confirm my judgement.

  4. First let me say I have little interest in any of the reality shows, the worst of which I believe is The Biggest Loser. The fans of this show sling mud at The Block and MKR saying there’s too much bitching and complaining, yet one only has to tune in for several minutes of TBL to see and hear those dumbo trainers screaming abuse and calling down hellfire and damnation upon their grossly overweight clients, some of whom have ended up in hospital with cardiac problems brought on by these PE turkeys.

    @ FKlein,
You are quite correct, this country is made up of mindless sheep, except the bulk of them all watch Channel 10.

  5. @FKLEIN – I agree the stupid Block rubbish and the scripted MKR is what some viewers must be seeking out. TBL on the other hand is a good reality program with real people that want to change their lives from severe obesity to more normal weights. The Ararat town theme this year adds even more to the shows value. Sad that Nine can put an old movie on and beat TBL. I will never understand the ratings system and it is making our viewing choices worse every year.

MKR has all similar personalities to last year – how much more boring can it get. It is just a scripted cooking show – very sad that people are fooled so easily. 🙁

  6. So does it bother anyone else that the Home and Away episode was a massive cheat? All summer they’ve been promoting that a regular dies and it turns out to be an incidental character no-one cares about.

  7. I had a feeling MKR would thrash the Block, but I did not expect it to wipe the floor with it. Wow, champagne corks must be popping in the Executive Suite at Seven. What a phenomenal start for a super competitive timeslot. The four week instant restaurant rounds are must-see TV, they just do it so well and the contestant dynamic really comes into its own in these rounds. As per usual, the casting was stellar. Not a lot of variation from last year, cause if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I suppose, but an interesting first bunch, just the same.

  8. Im not entirely sure having 3 reality programs on at the same time is a wise move …. this gives people an incentive to look for alternatives to do, such as Foxtel, video, Internet, read a book …..

Ten will suffer with this …..

  9. Another year, another boring daily top 10 list made up of the same shows

No wonder the numbers get softer and softer every year – I heard there was a ticker on the screen to count down the start of that Kitchen show? Seriously? Are FTA viewers that dumb they need a second by second reminder of when a show starts?

Wow, why dont Ch 7 start up another digital channel that just has clocks under their next “big” show starts… or run infomercials? Both of those seem to be the way FTA is heading

  10. Pete: Sorry those Consolidated Pay TV numbers were for shows from last Monday. I have now corrected with overnight numbers. To answer your question Consolidated = shows watched up to 7 days after their broadcast. Overnight = shows watched Live or As Live on day of broadcast.

  11. How can a repeat movie Blind Side and a failed US sitcom screening at 11.30pm get so many viewers? 507K for Partners does not seem possible at that time of night.

Also, David, does Consolidated for PayTV mean the screening on timeshifted channels, or viewers who IQ it and watch it at some time during the nights ratings period? or the same as Timeshifted data which can be viewers watching it some other night?

  12. Like similar contributors here, I would think 10 should edit The Biggest Loser down to 30 min and strip it at 7 Sunday to Thursday, thus reducing the Project to 30 biting minutes.

But I’m no programming guru like some others….

  13. Ten got 12.6% against Seven and Nine’s top shows. They will be happy because it is better than the 10% they were getting in 2012/13.

2.4m nationally is the same number of people watching as 1.7m 5MC. No problem as long as they are labelled correctly. It just tells you that 700k watched it in regional areas (those covered by the regional ratings system which is not all the rest of the country).

  14. bettestreep2008

Ten has obviously learnt nothing from previous years. Putting TBL up against MKR and Block was a colossaly stupid decision.

I don’t watch any of them – but from the promos I can tell TBL is the only one that doesn’t resort to catty and bitchy remarks to succeed.

  15. Got to love this ! MKR crushed the competition ! Loved the episode, so many interesting characters;
I believe TBL will average about this much for the rest of the season :/

  16. What is so special about MKR? Anyone??? Bueller Bueller?

Such a shame about TBL. It actually baffles the mind to know that a repeat movie (The Blindside) can out rate everything on Ten. This country is just made up of mindless sheep. Some times I really wished that I had a ratings box, I would leave it on Ten all day long and key in as many people as possible…..And that is why I will probably will never be selected to have one in my house.

  17. Ratings reality bites: #MKR No1 on TV. 2.4m viewers. 1.7m in metro areas >300k up on 2013 launch. The Block 1.1m. Biggest Loser 560k. Yum!

That was a tweet from 7 this morning. I think they are happy.

  18. 9 are doing well with the one hour news and then acurrent affair. Sad to see TBL do so bad compared to the other 2 shows. MKR started strong very enjoyable episode same with the block loved them both!
