2014-01-05_1957SBS begins a 4-part series Persons of Interest in which former ASIO officers and agents reveal files from historic cases.

Beginning with author and journalist Roger Milliss, later episodes feature Michael Hyde, Gary Foley and Frank Hardy.

There are two kinds of history: official history, the kind taught in schools, and secret history, which explains how things really happened. Persons of Interest is the story of Australia’s secret history.

In each episode of this new Walkley-nominated series, a ‘person of interest’ is given their previously secret ASIO intelligence file and asked to explain the allegations contained in it. The program unravels a unique personal, political and cultural history of Australia that still resonates in a world gripped by controversial figures like Edward Snowden and Julian Assange.

The series uncovers never-before-seen photographs and covert surveillance film recorded by ASIO. For the first time, ‘persons of interest’ and former ASIO officers and agents reveal the powerful stories within the files.

  1. They aren’t allegations, they are merely speculations. Most of it simply sat in ASIOs vaults for 50 years and had no influence on history at all.

The one that may have influenced history was from someone they won’t name who dropped out after they found out they were in the files because of surveillance on their best friend who was a spy revealed by ASIO.
