Ratings: Nine's cricket put in a tough fight against Seven's tennis. So who won the week?

2014-01-20_0029Sport ensured a close battle in the latest summer non-ratings week.

While Seven unveiled the Australian Open it only just got to the finish line ahead of Nine, which pulled big audiences for its Cricket.

The week’s top show was a One Day Cricket match at 1.62m viewers, while the tennis reached 1.06m.

Meanwhile TEN slipped back behind the ABC, despite a generally good summer for the Big Bash League, touted by the network as “the deal of the century.” In stark contrast, TEN’s best number was 703,00 last week.

Nine won 25-54 and 18-49. Seven took 16-39.

Seven won Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Nine took Sunday and Friday. ABC bettered TEN on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Seven was victorious in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth while Nine took Sydney and Brisbane.

  1. @Harry Yes still coming fourth even with BBL does seem like a bit of a kick in the teeth for Ten, but I can imagine that next summer BBL will be pulling even bigger number. Having the BBL was not meant to be a quick fix for Ten, they know they have a long road ahead of them and they have got a sport that will grow in popularity over the years.

  2. TEN made a huge financial investment on the Big Bash and they still come fourth! The deal of the century indeed! How long will their new CEO keep his job, the previous CEO had already been sacked by now. It’s been one disaster after another! They need someone who understands television, not another advertising guy.

  3. They are doing better than last summer’s complete disaster.

    But Ten is happy that next year, with these numbers, they might make a profit on BBL. And that for once 7 & 9 couldn’t outbid them for sport for once.
