9 Comments:

  1. The Broken Shore was terrible. No wonder they didn’t put it on in ratings when there would be competition.

It opened with shots of the fire and deaths at the boys home, and it was clear that revenge for abuse there was the motive from the first scene. Yet the plot meandered all over the place with obvious red herrings and stupid subplots going nowhere till a dreadful ending. Carvan was wasted playing one of Temple’s smart women who have no place in the story and only exist to sleep with his tough guy hero.

I gave up on it after 20 minutes and watched Spies of Warsaw — a passable spy drama.

  2. I agree, The Broken Shore was really underwhelming. Didn’t anyone reading the script realise it was slow and muddled? Great performances though – Don Hany and Anthony Hayes were great.

  3. The Broken Shore, was ok, not great but ok. The cast were excellent but the story seemed to be all over the place and slow at times. Like many Australian dramas, it needed to tighten up a bit.

  4. I was disappointed with The Broken Shore. The script was all over the place and did not deal with the complex issues raised in the book in a deep or insightful way. At $4M I cannot understand why it wasn’t expanded into a 4 or 6 hour mini-series ( like Broadchurch) and give itself the time to examine the reasons behind the crime and impact of these dark secrets on a community. Further proof, if any were needed, that ABC drama lacks a leader who can inspire and guide projects to reach their full potential.

  5. After years of god-awful cheesy telemovies we finally get a decent one in The Broken Shore.

The only problem with it was that the ending sort of fizzled out. There was very little suspense. You want the audience biting their nails and itching to know whodunit. It had a join-the-dots quality to it. When the big reveal happened it was a case of “Meh…”

Other than that it was well done. Nice to see decent editing that doesn’t put the audience to sleep.

  6. OMG looks at the ratings for The Block. Obviously not being shown in 3 cities thanks to the cricket really impacted on the ratings. Sadly TBL still could not beat it.
