2014-02-04_1137Next week Nine premieres two David Blaine specials, back to back on Wednesday night.

These will air at 8:30pm and 10pm next Wednesday night.

The first episode, which aired in the US in November, includes one Woody Allen.

“David Blaine: Real or Magic”
David Blaine’ takes his brand of street magic to the homes of some of the most recognizable celebrities in the world including Will Smith, Katy Perry and Woody Allen as he attempts to astonish with never-before seen, inconceivable magic.

“David Blaine: Drowned Alive”
David Blaine survives 8 days completely submerged in a tank of water with only a tube for water, air, and nutrition. The event culminates when he attempts to break the world record by holding his breath for 8 minutes and 58 seconds while freeing himself from a pair of handcuffs. During the stunt Blaine’s skin gradually started to break down and he suffered liver failure. Regardless, he survived and successfully emerged after 8 days under water.

This means that Sherlock, which premieres tomorrow night in most cities, switches to 9pm Thursday next week.

  1. Nine should have repeated series 1 and 2 over the summer break so as to help build up the audience for series 3.

Like the ABC, Nine won’t have first dibs on new BBC drama content anymore from the middle of this year anyway if I am correct. To all be locked away on Foxtel, but most likely express being the only advantage for them. Still, I won’t be signing up.

  2. Thanks for the heads up David. I am glad they are playing it. I wouldn’t have had a problem if it had of been played earlier like the others suggest. To avoid this. But I didn’t know if they would want to do that. Again I am happy they are playing it. Also I don’t want it to hurt them. So I can understand why they did it. I guess we’ll see if it works.

  3. Nine have been flooded with requests for Sherlock. Its never been much of a ratings smash here. They should have just aired this in January where it would have fared better against lesser competition. They could have pleased all the hungry viewers and used it to promote upcoming content. It’s not rocket science.

  4. If 9 have such little faith in Sherlock they should have just fasttracked it to satisfy the vocal fans. Seems they are now getting the worst of both worlds.

  5. More like Nine trying to not sacrifice Sherlock episodes against Seven scheduling The Blacklist on Wednesdays from next week.

Yes.. as a Sherlock viewer, I find this frustrating.. but from a network perspective, smart move I say.

  6. Are channel 9 deliberately trying to shoot themselves in the foot, with all of this scheduling nonsense? Its stupid and frustrating for the viewer. Serves them right if we all buy the DVDS from Amazon and boycott channel 9.
