Airdate: Hard Rock Medical

2014-02-02_1622Here’s a rarity, a Canadian drama featuring an Australian actor, and screening on NITV.

The series is Hard Rock Medical, which follows a motley crew of medical students as they navigate their way through a four-year adventure in the most unusual medical school in the world.

Amongst the cast is Australian Indigenous actor Mark Coles Smith (The Gods of Wheat Street, The Circuit) who plays soon-to-be Dr Gary Frazier.

Instructed by a charismatic and diverse medical faculty, eight students are initiated into the medical profession in the most hands on way possible. Their unorthodox medical curriculum might have them performing an impromptu vasectomy at gunpoint, dealing with a miner with an appetite for diamonds, trying to talk sense to a pregnant woman who’s attempting to bring on labour by riding an ATV or trying to avoid a rutting rampaging moose in the Northern muskeg.

Episode One: Q and Eh?
Students undergo a rigorous, seemingly bizarre interview process to gain acceptance to one of the world’s most unusual medical schools. What do medical schools look for in a prospective doctor? You’d think it would be book smarts, high marks, and a basic type-A personality. Then why the crazy interview questions? Most of the candidates are baffled by the process. All they can do is hope to find the right answers, and that who and what they are will get them over the bar and on their way to being a doctor. is an original drama from Canada that follows a diverse motley crew of medical students as they navigate their way through a four-year adventure in the most unusual medical school in the world.
