2014-02-06_0821USA procedural Psych has announced its current eighth season in the US is its last.

The off-beat series will end on the USA Network in late March followed by a Q & A special with series creator Steve Franks and the entire cast taped in front of a studio audience.

The Hollywood Reporter notes the eighth season opened with 2.3 million viewers and the most recent episode dipped to 1.7 million viewers, very near a series low. At its peak the show’s stronger seasons averaged around 4 million viewers.

The show also broadcast a two-hour movie musical in December.

Psych has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy,” said Chris McCumber, president of USA Network. “The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”

In Australia the show has aired on both TEN and Pay TV.

  1. What a shame, it was such a great show too. But I guess all good things come to an end.

It is unfortunate that it didn’t take off as well on the free to air channels here in Australia. Channel 10 didn’t really give it a go.

  2. “somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”

Hopefully that means there will be special movie episodes each year, a bit like how Columbo did 3 special movies a year at the end.

I enjoyed the Musical as well, heaps of references to other musicals just like they do with TV and Film in the series and heaps of fun.

  3. I’m glad this is ending, it has actually gone on too long, and the episodes are no longer funny or entertaining. The musical was intolerable, so I didn’t end up watching the whole thing.
