The Indonesian government has banned Schapelle Corby from doing a television interview with Channel Seven because it will cause “restlessness” in the local community.
Authorities have threatened to revoke her parole if a television interview goes ahead.
Fairfax reports Deputy justice and human rights minister Denny Indrayana said an interview would breach the regulations governing prisoners on parole.
“If you’re going to do the interview, especially if it’s going to be paid, it will cause … restlessness in the community, so I have instructed the officer here at the Corrections Bureau to advise the family not to do it, because in the end, it will, to our understanding, cause polemic,” he said.
“It’s going to cause polemic, so it’s possible that we will revoke her parole.”
Meanwhile News Corp reports Seven cameramen and producers arrived at Sentosa Seminyak in Bali, shooting footage outside Corby’s villa and in the resort’s restaurant.
Sunday Night’s Mike Willesee, who has been in Bali, declined to comment on the news.
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman said he would be asking his Attorney-General if payments to Corby could be stopped under Queensland’s proceeds of crime laws.
“I am deeply concerned, in fact I am dismayed, that a convicted drug criminal has benefited it appears from her criminal activity,” he said.
Reports have tipped a $2m pricetag for the interview by sister Mercedes Corby said in a video shot by Seven, “Recent media reports about payment to Schapelle for an interview are completely wrong. The sums being reported are ridiculous.”

Think the Interview should be allowed but not for a large amount so that any person who thinks about drug smuggling into or out of Asia can see what the consequences are if they get caught as this would be a first hand account of the true life in prison not a fabricated one and perhaps they might have second thoughts on trafficking drugs.
Does Schapelle really have a tough choice, get paid and go back to the hell hole she spent the last 9 years in. If she has any brains she will go to her sisters place and shut the hell up for the next few years until she can come home.
Reading the latest from Willesee and it seems like he’s only concerned about ratings. Why else would he think they could still do it? news.com.au/national/schapelle-corby-warned-over-villa-and-tv-interview-as-new-pictures-of-convicted-drug-smuggler-emerge/story-fncynjr2-1226826986717
The Indonesian authorities take the lead in showing their Australian TV neighbours the higher moral ground.
Why oh why did it even get this far. The tv netwroks en masse should give the Corby entourage the flick.
I coud not understand how SC was able to go straight from jail to a resort…when she was supposed to be staying with her sister….I thought she may have been in trouble right there.
This is clearly code from the Indonesian authorities for “What?? $2million eh?, better send some of that our way, or no interview”
A quiet exchange of money will go a long way to ensuring 7 will get their interview out 😉
Yes. Great news.
Thankyou Indonesia – I hope Seven have wasted their money. What a circus. Nine news last night plays the statement from Mercedes and excludes the bit where she rubbishes their telemovie
Seven will want to get something out of the footage they already have, so now we can look forward to a “Bali banned Schapelle from exposing everything, but let’s take you behind the scene of her release with our exclusive pictures” story instead.
Can’t wait.
@Jennome: Not only who would watch it, but what advertisers would want to be associated with it?
Oh well, a sudden end perhaps to Mike Willessee’s Bali junket.
Would anyone have watched such an interview anyway? Nil interest from me, at least.
Who the hell is giving Corby legal advice? It was always likely to be the case that the Indonesian authorities would not take kindly to this.
She’s on parole, not free. She needs to keep her head down, stay out of trouble, and not antagonise the parole board, local police etc. Not sell out to the highest bidder and get her face on TV at the earliest opportunity.
I just think going ahead shows great disrespect to Indonesia. She isn’t “free” yet.
What a mess.
Thank you, Indonesia.
And to Seven – greed is such an ugly thing.
I’m begging Ch 7 to show the interview so Ch 7 can be fined/held in contempt/lose their licence and so she can go back to prison
I’m sure a ‘donation’ by 7 to the Indonesian authorities will make this all go away….
Having an interview in Indonesia would cost a lot of money.
Only way to sort a minefield like that is to get some lawyers involved. I’m kinda also wondering if 7 maybe in contempt if it does go ahead.
The Indonesian cavalry rides to the rescue of the poor Australian viewing public-who’d have thunk it?
