Gatecrashers set to enter My Kitchen Rules

Three new teams join MKR next week, while NZ also picks up local format rights.

2014-02-10_2331Three new teams will step into My Kitchen Rules next week as part of a ‘Gatecrashers’ week.

The three teams will battle against the lowest-remaining teams from both Group 1 (Chloe & Kelly) and Group 2. Eliminated teams from each group remain just that, eliminated.

The Gatecrashers are Cathy & Anna (mother and daughter) from NSW,  Carlie & Tresne (teacher and estate agent) also from NSW and Josh & Danielle (experimental foodies, pictured) from Victoria. All five teams will compete in 5 more home kitchen contests.

Seven introduced Gatecrashers to the format last year.

Meanwhile, Seven’s format has now been sold to Television New Zealand Limited to be produced by Imagination Entertainment. TVNZ has previously aired 4 of the Australian seasons.

John Kelly, Network Programmer, TV2 said: “New Zealanders just couldn’t get enough of My Kitchen Rules, with 2013 being the most watched season yet. For this reason, we are thrilled to be teaming with Endemol and Imagination to bring Kiwis their very own local version of MKR. TVNZ is excited to give New Zealand teams the opportunity to battle it out in the instant restaurant rounds, and create dishes and drama that will captivate the nation.

Seven’s Director of Network Production, Brad Lyons, added: “We are delighted to be expanding this extraordinary format beyond Australia. It’s a remarkable programme. We are immensely proud of it and the results it’s delivering. It continues to build as each series is produced, and we’re looking forward to expanding My Kitchen Rules in the global market-place.”

  1. So now I understand when Manu said one of the teams cooks worse second time around. Surely it cant be the WA girls.

Its good that both eliminated teams have gone for good.
