Mark Wahlberg to host Kid’s Choice Awards

Actor / Producer Mark Wahlberg will host of this Nickelodeon’s 27th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards at USC’s Galen Center.

Airing in Australia on Sunday, 30 March, the international event celebrates kids’ favourites across film, television, music and more. Wahlberg will be joined by Hollywood’s biggest stars in an unforgettable telecast where kids rule.

“We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like Mark Wahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year,” said Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s President of Content Development and Production. “We can’t wait for him to take the stage and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood’s biggest stars and our audience.”

Nick fans will be able to get in on the slime online this year, voting for their favourite actors, shows, movies and musicians in all new ways. Beginning today, viewers can log on to nickelodeon.com.au/kca to get to know their Kids’ Choice Awards host, Mark Wahlberg. In February, the complete Kids’ Choice Awards digital experience will launch across desktop and mobile devices and leading up to the event, fans will be able to watch wacky videos, play KCA-themed games, and get constant updates on the slimefest to come.

Last year, Nickelodeon’s 26th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards hosted by Josh Duhamel was a huge success, with kids paying tribute to their favourites by casting a record-breaking 392 million votes in 22 categories (including live voting during the Orange Carpet pre-show). Australia had five Aussie categories, with Nickelodeon Australia’s Luke and Wyatt presenting the award for Aussies’ Fave Hottie on stage to winner, Victoria Justice. The other four local winners were Cody Simpson for Aussies’ Fave Homegrown Act; One Direction for Aussies’ Fave Music Act; and One Thing by One Direction for Aussies’ Fave Song. This year, the 2014 KCAs will feature five Aussie-specific award categories with four nominees in each, all to be announced in February.

The 2014 Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards will be seen in more than 375 million households around the world and in more than 25 languages. Within hours of airing live in the United States and Canada, the show will roll out internationally, allowing Australian kids to watch the show Express from the U.S. Voting for the 2014 KCAs will span six continents across 17 localised voting sites, giving kids practically everywhere the chance to decide who takes home a coveted blimp. In 2013, ratings for the KCAs were up double-digits YOY internationally, and the show was rated #1 in its timeslot amongst kids’ channels in key international markets, including Australia, UK Netherlands, Spain, Singapore and more.
