NBC’s Tom Brokaw diagnosed with cancer

Veteran NBC News correspondent Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

2014-02-12_1310Veteran NBC News correspondent Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow.

Brokaw, 74, received the diagnosis from his doctors last August, but said that they are pleased with how he is responding to treatment.

“I remain the luckiest guy I know,” he said in a statement.

“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come.”

Brokaw is a former anchor for NBC Nightly News and has made recent appearances on Today, Nightly News with Brian Williams, Meet the Press and Winter Olympics coverage.

“I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter,” said Brokaw.
