PVRs at the ready for killer Sunday night

This Sunday is shaping up as a very big night of television.

2014-02-18_2345This Sunday is shaping up as a very big night of television.

ABC has Rake, with an hilarious Cate Blanchett cameo and guest Magda Szubanski, followed by several chapters of Tim Winton’s The Turning with a stellar cast including  Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Miranda Otto, Richard Roxburgh, Hugo Weaving, Callan Mulvey, Susie Porter, Harrison Gilbertson, Brenna Harding, Matt Nable, Wayne Blair, Robyn Nevin, Dan Wyllie.

Seven premieres a new season of Downton Abbey and that darned cooking show will surely steamroll its timeslot.

Nine premieres Fat Tony & Co. and has another Block room reveal.

TEN is hoping Robbie Williams can lure in a crowd for the first Performance show of So You Think You Can Dance Australia but they also have Elementary, Have You Been Paying Attention? The Graham Norton Show and a little thing called the Winter Olympics.

And Foxtel has high hopes for The Real Housewives of Melbourne, preceded by A Grammy Salute to the Beatles across 3 separate channels: Arena, FOX8 and MAX.

There’s just not enough hard drives to go around!

Which grabs your interest most this Sunday?

  1. I prefer DVDs. Mainly because they are far more reliable than any recording device. Although not perfect. The only thing I miss with recording stuff is being able to get the ads and interviews. I do prefer live TV. Although I do have known difficulties.

I just hope everyone does find their audience. I personally hope to watch Downton.

  2. Yes this is a pain, 3 things that I would watch all overlapping. Elementary, Downton Abbey and Rake. Unless one of them is repeated later in the week I suppose I will watch Rake ‘live’ and record the other two….but first I will have to watch the first two episodes of this season’s Rake which are still waiting to be watched on my PVR.

  3. I’ll be watching SYTYCD. I wasn’t interested in the audition episodes but I’m keen to see the production values and dancing in the live show.

After that I’ll give Fat Tony a go.. And during the ad breaks I’ll probably go online and check out the room reveals from The Block, they’re easily knocked over in about 10 minutes.

  4. Why do they do this?? It can’t be to anyone’s advantage. They’re all sooo pathetic in their desperation to grab the tiniest bit of ratings advantage.

And boo-hiss to the ABC in getting involved to this race to the bottom, they have no commercial advantage to gain so putting Rake on another night shouldn’t make any difference to them, specially when reality TV has taken over the rest of the week.

  5. I have seen downtown abbey already and this season is as dull as ditchwater . It has one interesting story arc but that just fizzles out. It’s a shame they don’t get new writers
