Renewed: Coast Australia

Neil Oliver is set to stroll our sandy shores once more for the History channel.

2014-02-10_1117As tipped to TV Tonight by Brian Walsh, factual series Coast Australia has been renewed for a second season.

The first episode presented by Neil Oliver achieved the highest ratings to date for the History channel. The first season will also air on BBC Two in the UK soon.

Oliver returns for Season Two at 8 new episodes, again showcasing a different strip of Australian coastline.

Foxtel’s General Manager of Factual Channels Jim Buchan said “I’m delighted to see how well Coast Australia has resonated with Australian and New Zealand audiences. The first series was nothing short of epic and is a fine example of the type of world-class local production viewers can watch on the History channel.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming back Neil Oliver and his wonderful passion for history and storytelling to a second season of this great franchise. He complements our local presenters beautifully.”

Neil Oliver said, “The making of Coast Australia series one was a life-enhancing experience for me. The scale of the country, the grandeur of the landscapes, the dazzling colours, the people I had the privilege of meeting. All of it captured my imagination and whetted my appetite for more.

“Now I have the prospect of season two to look forward to and I can’t wait. More journeys, more colours, more people and more stories.

Coast is a juggernaut. Once it starts rolling, it seems to generate an unstoppable momentum. Each story told leads to 10 more, or 100. Let’s get going!”

To be produced by Great Southern Film and Television, the second season will commence production in March and air in the second half of 2014.

  1. Would it be considered naughty if I said I hope SBS get the FTA rights? Although I also hope they put the watermark in a less stressful place too by then. I would welcome it very much.

  2. That should air after Optus 10 has launched so we might finally be able to see our gorgeous coast in HD. But given it’s Foxtel, who could have purchased the free transponders on D3 before now to launch more HD feeds, I’m not holding my breath.
