The Block responds to editing claims

Producer declines to engage in a "public slanging match" with aggrieved contestant.

the_block_2014_-_fans_v_favesThe Block has responded, briefly, to claims by one its contestants that he has been selectively edited to look ‘mentally deficient.’

Contestant Steve O’Donnell wrote on Facebook, “I want to keep track of this as it looks like its (sic) getting out of hand and I can’t remember every fabrication.

“My memory of the bs is finite.”

In response, Julian Cress, Executive Producer told TV Tonight: “I believe I have a duty of care to all the contestants on The Block and I’m not about to enter into a public slanging match with one of them.

“That’s not how we do things on The Block.”

Judging by your comments, you must have been onsite whilst this series was being filmed, because you seem to be talking in the present tense.

But if not, this is what this topic is all about ‘ editing ‘ and if so have the producers achieved exactly what they set out to do.

Suggest that you possibly ignore the events and personalities depicted at the time, and concentrate on the obvious out of sequence shots where ‘ progress of work’ jumps about all over the place, that can only occur through ‘editing’ after and not during or before a particular stage has been reached

  2. Steve is not good at getting things done or more knowing how to get things done. Yes he’s a Chimney Sweep and does labouring, however it is one thing and he’s not used to multi-tasking and thinking outside the box (he doesn’t have to in his real life work).

Chantelle is okay though, sure she’s had a few melt downs, but seeing she has to do most of the thinking and what they’ve been up against I get that. For instance the common area she painted/stained that entire roof on her own, yet Steve wandered around lost (even when waiting for the beans for the bean bags, he just sat around for half an hour).

Yes there is editing and Steve may have come across a little bit more useless than he is, though where there is smoke there is fire.

  3. Is it a surprise it’s heavily edited? One would think watching 20 or 30 hours of people building everyday would get boring pretty quickly. I would expect punters on this site to be a bit more switched on to the reality of reality TV and how it’s made. I’d say the reason Steve is looking so hopeless is because he probably is!

  4. I’ve ignored the over-produced, manipulative style of the Block because I wanted to enjoy it. But recent events have burst the bubble for me. We’ve always known the producers assassinate characters at will, but now their hypocricy is too glaring to ignore. They further expose their Cowboy leaning with bikini photo shoot of the female contestants, and Scotty’s fast being revealed as not so much an Aussie bloke, but a sexist pig.

  5. It’s heavily edited. Even if a couple has their room done 30 minutes before room reveal the editing still makes it look as though they are working up until the last second.

  6. ” I believe I have a duty of care to all the contestants on The Block and I’m not about to have a public slanging match with one of them”

Could it be possible the following was selectively edited out ‘ Especially at a time when the only Block I’m focused on, are the Blocks that Logie’s are mounted on ‘
