Willesee tipped for Corby exclusive

Mike Willesee's appearance at Kerobokan prison suggests Seven may have snared the first Schapelle Corby interview.

vlcsnap-00001mwIt looks increasingly likely that Seven has snared the exclusive interview with Schapelle Corby, with media today speculating about the appearance of Mike Willesee appeared at Bali’s Kerobokan prison with members of the Corby family.

Willesee files for Sunday Night, meaning an interview could run as soon as this weekend.

News Corp reports Seven’s cameras were inside the Corby family home in Queensland, celebrating her release today.

The price-tag on media deals, which is unlikely to be disclosed, has been tipped as high as $3m. But strict limitations on her parole conditions may impact her ability to speak freely, and could drive the deal down.

The Guardian reports there was no auction on the deal, despite being pursued by several networks.

Corby’s face today was shielded from a media feeding frenzy, perhaps to keep some exclusivity for her first television interview.

A deal with Seven, which is likely to include their Pacific Magazines, would contrast with the defamation case against the network, successfully won by Mercedes Corby in 2008.

Australian laws about profiting from crime will not have jurisdiction for Corby’s Indonesian conviction.

Tonight Nine reruns its Schapelle telemovie at 9:40pm which attracted 1.02m viewers last night.

  1. I think Willesee is totally the wrong person to interview her, i heard rumours of Melissa Doyle, which would be a wiser choice mainly because she’s female. A female interviewer would make her feel more at ease, and would also be more appealling to the female audience which i predict will make up the majority of viewers because they identified with her being the typical all Aussie girl hence the intense interest in her story.

  2. I thought 7 must have got he deal today when 7 cameras were inside the family home recording the family reaction. Also sevens coverage today was very basic and they did not do the live run around. Probably a condition of getting the interview Seven were Just outside the jail. Ten was good ( the female reporter was excellent And did an amazing job). But have to say. Karl was fantastic. Not normally a big fan But he showed great initiative getting inside the van whilst it was parked and asking officials if he could show Australia corb’ys release papers and what her conditions were. All live. Well done Karl A true pro!!

  3. @carolemorrissey – it’s interesting that you can be so definite about someone’s guilt simply from what you’ve picked up from a skim of commercial and social media. That must be comforting.

  4. It seems intending to pay the Corbys for their story leads Seven news and Sunday Night down the track of “”My Bedazzled Life”” or Celebrity Splash”, rather than respectablity!!

  5. I might have endured an interview with Shapelle, saying all the predictable things, and Mike doesn’t bother me. But I’ll boycott any show that pays convicted criminals for interviews.

  6. She won’t be able to say anything which will jeopardise her parole. She won’t be able to criticise the corrupt Indonesian justice system. She’s spent the last 9 years in a hell hole for something she didn’t do. She should spend every cent before coming back to Australia so they can’t take it off her. I’m glad she is finally free.

  7. As long as Mike can ask any question. Nothing can be banned. Lets face it this is going to be one of those pondered for years and years to come did she or did she not do it.

Id be sort of interested but you know that that day she got out someone was going to pay for a deal.

  8. Next week’s Sunday Night is the second part of the Simon Gittany investigation (the first part airing last night). Maybe the interview could air as a special next Monday, against Love Child?

  9. Hope Willesee gets the interview as he is the best, followed by Tracy Grimshaw and Leigh Sales. I don’t know why people get upset about check book journalism. She has a story to tell and someone is prepared to pay for it. Very democratic to me and good on her. Whatever happened to the boogie board. Would have to be worth something on eBay.

I think by now we all know what she looks like

  11. Will not be watching, not interested in cheque book journalism, nor for whatever ms corby has to say. Hopefully(but unlikely) it is a raitings failure for 7, when this interview goes to air.
