  1. I wonder how Ros’s three hour stint fits in with the Midday Report on ABC1? Currently 12pm-12:30pm is shown on ABC1 in the eastern and central states (on delay in Qld, SA and NT), and 2-2:30pm is shown in WA (with an hour delay in summer). I assume the same will still be happening.

Good to see a new block at night time too. This should lead to OzTam higher ratings. Early evenings seem very disjointed on ABC News 24 at the moment.

  2. OK I’ve been thinking. The reason why it would be nice for the News or other half hour shows to be on the half hour is so 45 minute or hour shows could line up with most channels. So it is easier for the audience to watch it live except the for the random start time channels.

But also if someone is watching the international News services as well. Because the audience could watch BBC or MSN or CNN or whatever the News service is on the hour then they could switch over on the half hour.

Although I don’t know these channels so maybe it is unnecessary. But if not then ABC News 24 could be a mirror to these services instead of a copy. I do get there is more than one time zone plus daylight savings. Also it would take real planning and thinking to see if there is a problem or how stupid it is. Could take years.

  3. They need to do something about the news coverage on weekends – the endless repeats of shows such as One Plus One, Landline, State to State etc effectively means it is only a news channel on Monday – Friday. It is a defacto IView on Saturday and Sunday.

  4. I like that they’ve got more News especially later. But I’ve just looked at the EPG and they still have the 45 minute or 1 hour shows start on the hour. So is out of whack with a lot of channels. Really not useful for a “live” channel.

Although the commercial channels these days are so out of whack themselves it theoretically lines up. So I guess watching the main commercial channels could sometimes work out. One could claim prescience on the part of programmers. But it is a real pain for everyone else that operates in the live environment: as intended.

One last annoyance. I’m glad I watched the Four Corners repeat earlier because they currently have the “Breaking News” ticker tape over it. News that is hours old and repetitively tormenting.

  5. Pertinax: Well, it’s nice that they’re no longer filling the day with repeats like One Plus One and The World This Week and all that. I hope this means The Quarters is gone, too.
Jock: Parliament is on a break, so there’s no Question Time. It’ll be back.
