2014-03-29_0147US sitcom Mom will premiere on Nine following The Block auction on Wednesday April 9.

The comedy stars Anna Faris as a single mother who, after dealing with her battle with alcoholism and drug addiction, decides to restart her life in Napa, California’s wine country.

Allison Janney stars as her mother, also a recovering alcoholic. The series is co-created by Chuck Lorre.

Despite earlier promos which altered the spelling of the title, the series will screen under its correct Mom title.

It kicks off with a double episode 8:40pm Wednesday April 9 on Nine.

Mom, an irreverent and outrageous take on true family love and dysfunction, premieres on Wednesday, April 9, after the finale of The Block: Fans v Faves on Channel Nine.

This wildly hilarious new comedy from Chuck Lorre, creator of The Big Bang Theory, stars Anna Faris (Scary Movie, The House Bunny) and Allison Janney (The West Wing, Masters of Sex).

Newly sober single mum Christy (Faris) is four months without a drink and working as a waitress while she struggles to raise two children and overcome a history of questionable choices.

Her sobriety is tested when her estranged mother Bonnie (Janney) traipses back into her life, ready with a passive-aggressive remark about every one of Christy’s decisions.

Bonnie joins Christy’s complicated circle of relationships: her handsome married boss (and lover) Gabriel (Nate Corddry); the restaurant’s hot-tempered chef Rudy (French Stewart); her pretty, 16-going-on-25-year-old daughter Violet (Sadie Calvano); her sweet but overly honest son Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal); Baxter, her irresponsible ex and Roscoe’s father (Matt Jones); and Violet’s clueless boyfriend Luke (Spencer Daniels).

Christy tries to remain positive as she pursues her new path in life but she faces an uphill battle, surrounded by a dubious support system – and copious quantities of dysfunction.

  1. So tell me Nine/WIN why I should watch this show? You can’t schedule the current crop of new episodes of The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men or 2 Broke Girls regularly each week. So how is this show going to be any different!
