Chelsea Handler set to leave E!

Chelsea Handler is set to depart E! channel at the end of her contract, following her dissatisfaction with the network.

chelseasLate night US talk show queen Chelsea Handler is set to depart E! channel at the end of her contract, following her dissatisfaction with the network over Chelsea, Lately.

Her manager Irving Azoff told The Hollywood Reporter, “Chelsea intends to leave when her contract expires. She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas.”

Those plans could include a radio show and a possible nightly or weekly late-night show on another network or digital service.

Handler’s new book, Uganda be Kidding Me has been No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list for more than a week and she in the midst of a tour of more than 30 markets, both elevating her position.

She is said to be making about $9 million a year while delivering average viewership of 572,000 a night — a decline from 839,000 in 2010.

Handler has been open about her frustration with programming at E! saying, “They don’t know what they’re doing. They have no ideas. It’s a failure.”

An E! spokesperson said: “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of Chelsea, Lately at this time.”

  1. YouTube comedian Grace Helbig has been given a contract with e! And it sounds like it will talk show style… Maybe this is what they’re planning to replace it with. She’s been on the show a couple of times too…

  2. I love Chelsea Lately, I hope another channel picks it up if she does leave. It will be quite a hole in the E! lineup without Chelsea Lately, they would have to do another talk show format.
