Gallipoli boys in training for Nine

Seasoned actors and rising stars are all being put through their military paces for Nine's Gallipoli drama.

2014-03-04_2325Cast members from Gallipoli are already undergoing military training ahead of filming Nine’s 2015 drama series.

Cast including Lachy Hulme, Kodi Smitt-McPhee, Matt Nable, Lincoln Lewis, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor and Anthony Hayes were joined by producer Imogen Banks, Nine Drama exec Jo Rooney, Director Glendyn Ivin and writer Christopher Lee at a media event at Southbank last night.

The big budget 8 part series is based on the best-selling book by Les Carlyon.

Rehearsals and training are underway in Melbourne ahead of filming which will take three months on location including Bacchus Marsh and Werribee.

The principal cast is divided into seasoned actors -many of whom play military officials- and younger, rising stars as recruits. All of them are being put through their paces by military historians, with some of the older actors already feeling the strain of the vigorous vocal work from shouting commands all day.

“It’s true to the young boys who were involved in this,” Matt Nable told TV Tonight.

“It’s about them, which is wonderful, to have their stories told. We (older guys) sort of fill in the background which is also beautiful, but I can’t wait to see what these kids do.

“One of the great appeals for me to do this was to stay home (in Australia) because I did 180 days away from home last year. But that was secondary to working with young actors and to be in a position where you can impart something for them and to be around them and that energy, and to watch them gravitate to the task at hand.

“It was a huge appeal to me.”

Gallipoli airs in 2015 on Nine.
