STW9 will revamp its breakfast news from today with two live bulletins screening during the Today show.

2014-03-16_2107STW9 will revamp its breakfast news from today with two live bulletins screening during the Today show.

Today Perth News will air live at 7.00am and 8.30am weekdays, presented by Tim McMillan.

Another local half-hour bulletin, Nine Perth Morning News, airs at 11.30am.

Sally Ayhan will present the weather, traffic and petrol price information.

The move is part of Nine’s push to elevate its profile in the Perth market while the competition is airing delayed News bulletins from the East Coast.

Nine Perth Managing Director, David Mott, said “For the first time, the people of Perth will be able to wake up to a live television news bulletin that is focused on keeping them informed on what has happened in their city and state overnight, and what’s on the news radar for the day.

“We are delighted to be leading the way in morning news with the launch of Today Perth News. Perth deserves morning bulletins that are home-grown and up-to-date.”

“Tim McMillan and Sally Ayhan are enthusiastic about now being the first to let people know what’s going on in the city early in the morning – as well as doing the news at 6.00pm each week night. It’s a credit to their commitment and professionalism.”

News Director Shaun Menegola said Nine Perth has recruited extra reporters, producers, editors, camera operators and production staff for the new bulletins.

“The live bulletins will have a strong focus on what’s happening right here in the West. It’s a thrill to be part of it,” he said.

To accommodate the move Mornings will now begin from 9:30am.

  1. Can we please bring back Lisa and Karl!!! We have the same repeated news from 7am all day! I used to look forward to my mornings with the Today show, now I’ve turned to Sunrise! Not happy!!!

  2. this seems very bizarre. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to edit out the east coast news that occurs on the hour and half hour and insert local news updates from the local newsroom rather than breaking the show?

  3. I give it 2 weeks, news bulletins are for 6pm, people want breakfast tv in the morning. Watch people turn to sunrise once the bulletin starts. Wake up showed us that local news is no selling point.

  4. “not delayed on ABC24”, as I said, giving Perth the only real-time TV news in daytime.
@Bella – No, can’t imagine how WA would want to watch old news when there’s commercial free, ABC24, in real time.

  5. “Perth viewers will still get all 3 and a half hours of Today”. Poor Perth.
Perth must seem like it’s in a time warp, with news 3 hours old on commercial TV, not delayed on ABC24 (or on radio), and having all of that irrelevant east coast fodder like Petrol Watch. This is good news (pun intended). Should help STW9’s news profile.
Presenting from 7am up to 7pm. Long day. No wonder Tim’s starting to go grey.
