Returning: The Kumars

Just when you thought your were safe from ethnic humour Indian family The Kumars are back.

2014-03-23_1216Just when you thought your were safe from ethnic humour Indian family The Kumars are back in your living room and theirs with a new six-part series on ABC1.

Join Sanjeev Kumar for his weekly chat show from his loungeroom behind his dad’s shop in the showbiz capital of Hounslow.

This week’s guests in the ‘flat of chat’ are Daniel Radcliffe, Chevy Chase and Olivia Colman.

Sanjeev attempts to put on a professional show, although his dad, Ashwin, is more concerned about getting the guests to do promotional adverts for his products in the shop rather than hearing what they have to say.

Grandmother, Ummi, is up to her usual tricks of interrupting Sanjeev’s interviews with her raucous questions and anarchic approach to suitable topics.

And the Kumars’ landlady, Hawney, pops in to remind the family that their rent is late so Sanjeev reluctantly agrees to let her join them on the sofa.

9:30pm Wednesday, 2 April ABC1

  1. Veritas…I’m fairly sure Greeks on the Roof was not a hit. From memory, it was on a Thursday night the year before Lost began, when Seven had a full year of disasterous Thursdays

  2. Oh good….loved this show when it was on before ….Love that Sanjeev is married to his Granny in real life…LOL….and both actors I really enjoyed in Goodness Gracious Me…Ihmmm…wonder if that is on Youtube…will have to check… I find I like all their works I have seen….

  3. The format of this show travels well and has been adopted in other countries. A few years back Seven bought the format and Effie hosted Greeks On the Roof which was a ratings hit. It’s not very often a comedy format works in another country especially Australia where local versions of overseas series (Love They Neighbour, Are You Being Served, etc) have not fared particularly well at all.
