Veteran British entertainer Ronnie Corbett, 83, is retiring from showbiz after being admitted to hospital recently with a mystery illness.
The comedian was taken to the hospital last weekend after experiencing chest and stomach pains. He has since been discharged but further tests are expected after doctors failed to make a diagnosis.
Corbett’s wife Anne said: “We didn’t know what was wrong. He was feeling sick in his stomach and he wasn’t well. The hospital ran lots of tests, he was in there for several days.”
But she confirmed he will be retiring: “He won’t be doing any more TV,” she said. “He’s 83. He won’t be like (Strictly Dancing host) Bruce Forsyth.”
Corbett’s latest health scare follows his collapse two years ago at a Chinese restaurant while celebrating the news that he was to be awarded a CBE. He was on medication after recently having undergone surgery on his knee.
In recent years the former Two Ronnies star has appeared in Extras, The Sarah Jane Adventures and, in December 2010, taking part in a one-off sketch show The One Ronnie.

Well done Ronnie, and great entertainer over the years. Best wishes for retirement
@SpankedHam – nice
I wonder if his wife checked with him first before she made the announcement. It doesn’t seem like an official statement
Best wishes for Ronnie’s retirement.
Always a great entertainer!
I used to love watching The Two Ronnies!
I’ll light four candles in the hope that he recovers more quickly.
