A Current Affair confronts SBS football commentator over debts

Former Thursday FC commentator Zeljko Kalac is confronted by ACA cameras over a trail of unpaid debts.

2014-04-17_0159SBS A-League commentator Zeljko Kalac featured in a story on A Current Affair last night, in which it alleged he was living ‘a double life.’

Nine alleged Kalac, who has appeared on Thursday FC, had left a trail of unpaid debts worth around half a million dollars due to a gambling problem.

One creditor claimed to be owed $260,000 which has now blown out to $320,000, and a court judgment in his favour.

“I lost my property…. What do I tell my kids? It’s my inheritance. I’ve got nothing,” ‘Bob’ alleged.

Kalac claimed to now be bankrupt and told the show he was not paid by SBS.

An SBS Statement told Nine:

“The hosts of SBS football programs are Les Murray and former Socceroos Craig Foster and David Zdrilic.

“Zeljko Kalac is one of a number of football analysts that SBS engages from time to time on SBS football programs and football matches.

“SBS complies with all court orders and directives, but due to confidentiality reasons does not provide financial details of individuals.”

Sydney Football Club, which also employs Kalac, said it had at all times complied with its legal obligations.
