Kids wanted for Disney Cup International

Foxtel wants kids for the 2014 Disney Cup football tournament in Florida, selected by Tim Cahill.

2014-04-10_1613Foxtel is looking for kids to join the first ever Australian teams to participate in the 2014 Disney Cup International football tournament this July at Walt Disney World, Florida.

A Gala Day with Tim Cahill will take place in Sydney in late May, although strictly speaking it probably isn’t confined to Sydney residents.

To celebrate the launch of the new channel Disney XD, Foxtel is looking for boys and girls born between 1 August 2001 and 31 July 2002, to form two Foxtel All-Stars teams. Socceroo and Australia’s all-time leading goal scorer Tim Cahill and his team of professional coaches, led by Robbie Anderson from the Everton FC Academy, will select and train the teams.

One hundred children (50 boys and 50 girls) will be chosen to participate in a special Gala Day presented by Foxtel and Disney XD at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour Sydney on Saturday, 24 May.

Following the day long trial, 10 boys and 10 girls will be chosen to participate in the international competition.

Tim Cahill said: “This is a brilliant new initiative that continues the Academies I have been running with Foxtel around Australia over the last year. To join with Disney and this huge competition is very exciting and gives even more kids around Australia an opportunity to follow their dreams and play the great world game. I am excited to be able to help children fulfil their dreams, to be able to give hope and opportunities to grassroots football is a once in a lifetime experience and one they will remember forever,”

Coaches and all 20 players (each accompanied by a parent/guardian) will travel and stay at Walt Disney World and compete in the 2014 Disney Cup International tournament, held in the world-class facilities of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.

The Disney Cup International tournament has attracted teams from over 20 countries for the past 15 years. This will be the very first time an Australian team has competed, and with Tim’s help, this is our chance to show the world what Australian footballers can do!
