seven 006John Stephens was offered a role as Head of International Development with Seven, just days after he had accepted a role at TEN, according to a report in The Australian.

Stephens, who is at the centre of a legal tussle between Seven and TEN, allegedly signed a contract with TEN to become its Director of Scheduling and Acquisitions on March 6, but four days later signed a new contract with Seven.

The job description offered reads: “Charged with the ongoing expansion of Seven’s television business and program interests in international territories and also on occasion in Australia.”

Seven has new production interests in the US and UK, after recently announcing production arm 7Wonder.

The newspaper claims Seven West Media chairman Kerry Stokes is considering plans to buy Channel 5 in the UK from media tycoon Richard Desmond, which is on the market at £700 million ($1.2bn). But Seven believes the price is over-heated.

TEN is seeking to prevent Stephens from working for Seven for two years, after its deal with the veteran programmer detoured.

Stephens has claimed he was on painkillers at the time of accepting a TEN contract, whilst recovering from a hip operation.
