Russel Howcroft rumoured for Recipe to Riches role

Could TEN's Exec General Manager be taking an on-air role for the network with season two of Recipe to Riches?

2014-04-15_1602TEN Executive General Manager and Gruen Planet panelist Russel Howcroft is said to be under consideration for a role on the second season of ad-friendly Recipe to Riches.

The FremantleMedia series was renewed a few weeks ago. Despite middling ratings, Woolworths was very happy with sales of the products featured on the show.

Judge David Nobay from Droga5 is known to be out this season, while other roles are unclear.

“Russel is in the frame but a few others are too,” one TV executive told AdNews. “He’s one of a few names. He’s got to be the best person for the job.”

Recipe to Riches is backed by Woolworths despite Coles backing MasterChef Australia on the same network.

The future of Gruen Planet is under discussion between producers Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder and the ABC, with host Wil Anderson confirming he was focussed on his stand-up career at the moment.

The show is understood to be returning.

  1. Nobay was the only good expert on the show, Which rated poorly, less than the Project, because it was slightly more boring and badly produced. Why it featured two English judges beats me… Where are all the aussies? Why aren’t we making Australian tv for Australian audiences?

  2. @Paul D: For me, Wil Anderson is crucial to the success of Gruen. Yes, it’s the content but Wil’s timing, slick delivery and interaction with the panel is also integral to its success.

  3. Are Ten even trying anymore? They obviously have no ideas in their programming department on how to replace a very low rating program. They have no confidence whatsoever in what their programs their putting forward. This lets try it and maybe it will rate above 400,000 attitude is sinking this network even lower than rock bottom.

  4. I quite liked the first series, though didn’t buy anything as it was totally overpriced, I did notice Chocorn back on the shelves last week!

As for Gruen Planet, if Wil Anderson stalls it, dump him, it’s the content and the panel that makes it worth watching, not him.

  5. I watched a re-run of this on daytime TV the other day and it’s actually a pretty good show. Russell would be a great fit, I think. Looking forward to this returning on TEN.

  6. “Come on guys, buy this ad package and I will personally guarantee you get 56 free plugs on the #4 show of the night. I will personally deliver them”.
