  1. I think 7Mate takes the biscuit (they dont deserve a cake) for always saying “New Family Guy” or “New American Dad!” then changing the schedule almost immediately after – over and over and over again to the point my friends and I just stopped watching… all three of us… 😛

  2. @David Knox

Thank you David for your reply, and I totally agree with your premise, and do fully understand that television networks are indeed an industry, but they are not the only ones heavily reliant on their business’s successes, because we the viewers are almost as equally reliant, simply because good advertising revenues equate to good quality programmes.

But without ‘ All Three’ being in a harmonious relationship, such as where one party is taken for granted, or even worse when one party appears to become only a necessary evil in status and in the networks eyes, the rot begins to set in, and in some instances reaches the point of being beyond repair.

So I will accept your guidance and referral to the archives to refresh myself, and whilst delving into the past, I may even plot the history of the demise of Network Ten, possibly in time for tomorrows trading results.

  3. Thank you David for this and your other updates over the upcoming non-ratings period.

But may I ask please did any of those 3 networks, give the slightest hint that their decisions as made; were influenced or in fact aimed at viewers best interests, or were they as per usual ‘entirely for their own selfish interest’

    @Pertinax

I agree and expressed similar sentiments elsewhere, and also intend to catch up on recorded data etc., but also keep an eye out for rpts. that may finally let me catch up on so many missed starts and finishes because of the utter disrespect dished up to viewers, as the Networks play their selfish ratings games

    1. Commercial television is a business not a public service: look to ABC for that. The industry (both television and advertising) has operated with a ratings and non-ratings period for decades, similar to other countries. Please refer to OzTAM site or other posts archived here for more on these two seasons.

  4. Re: Resurrection argument

If people want examples of drop off there’s Arrow last year with Nine. Also Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with Seven. I’m not sure but was there also Heroes, Flash Forward and many other examples that had ratings decline. But I think it might of been due to content for the later examples rather than channel mistreatment.

That said I don’t think if they take it off for one week it’ll equal ratings disaster. I think they could risk it. If I were a viewer I wouldn’t be upset.

    @ David

Would it be naughty of me to mention Celebrity Splash? Although not genre or drama. 😛

  5. Is that preliminary start times? Because these days it seems too good to be true… I like them theoretically.

If they do adjust them then I don’t mind too much missing out on Downton. Lastly, to those that haven’t seen it, I did like The Adjustment Bureau when I saw it. So I can recommend it.

  6. Wednesday
    7:00pm Home and Away dbl
7:30pm Highway Patrol rpt (Syd / Bris / Per)
8:00pm Better Homes and Gardens (Mel)

Is Home and Away only a double in Melb on Wednesday??

  7. The AFL on the Thursday will be shown in Perth on 7mate from 5.30pm local time, so Seven Perth should follow the Sydney and Brisbane schedule.

  8. It’s School Holidays and Easter so a lot of people will be away, possibly out of the country, so can’t watch the episodes and its a non-ratings period.

Why show something when many viewerscan’t watch it and it won’t count in yearly battle or in setting basic advertising rates?

Seven are keeping Revenge on because it lost viewers because of Love Child and they will be hoping to regain them but are saving Resurrection which is rating huge and only has 8 episodes and they want to get the most value from them.

Personally I have been looking forward to break in the ratings over Easter to empty the hard drives a bit, they have gotten rather full.

  9. i agree it is a big mistake taking Resurrection off, 7 should know that the audience for this type of show is very fragile, the slightest disruption to viewing patterns will derail the audience and they wont be back.

  10. @ Mac I will only watch Revenge
    Nothing 7&9 offer interest me!
I wanted my kitchen sux to air so it would be finished. I don’t watch it, can’t stand it! They dragged it out last year! I am over the over saturation and promotion of 7 shows. They give away most the story which ruins the show for those that watch it!

  11. Ten would have been smart to use the Easter lull to launch SYTYCD. They could have done a big launch week with 4-5 audition episodes, then launched the live shows on Easter Sunday when there is nothing else on.

Can’t have done any worse in the ratings than the suicidal path they took instead, and at least there would have been a glimmer of hope that they could at least capture a few viewers who would otherwise have no idea that the show even existed.

  12. I do not understand why TV stations do this it does not do them any favours what so ever. People get in a routine of watching certain TV shows. For most people they continue to work over the easter period other than the public holidays so I’d say continue with regular programming instead

  13. Yay for more double Parenthood! Will it still be followed by Smash? Hope they’re not resting it since it’s buried at stupid o’clock anyway!
