ABC 2014-15: Upfronts’ trailers

Video: Check out the trailer for the US adaptation of Secrets & Lies and new US shows from ABC.

2014-05-14_1345ABC (USA) has now held its Upfronts and amongst the trailers released, we get our first look at the American adaptation for Secrets and Lies.

“Our shows rock — OK, that’s the upfront. Want to go to the pub?” ABC programming chief Paul Lee said to media buyers.

This year, Lee says he approached “some of the greatest storytellers in the world and asked them one thing: bring us your passion project — we’ll take off the handcuffs…And in my opinion they do not disappoint.” He said the new shows include “One of most blistering pieces of raw film ever scheduled on broadcast television.”

Host Jimmy Kimmel joked, “Our shows are mostly about superheroes and fairy tales. They may not be great but they make a great birthday party for a 6 year old.

“It’s weird to see NBC doing well, it’s like if your adult cousin who works at Arby’s suddenly got a masters degree…What does NBC do? I’ll tell you — you double down and you hit them with Peter Motherf***ing Pan, and Music Man.

“Mark Burnett described AD as Game Of Thrones Meets Borgias Meets The Bible. I read a pitch for the show, it’s Total meets Cluster meets F***.”

  1. You are missing a few trailers here David, for example ‘The Whispers’ starring the guy who plays Aiden on Revenge

Agents of SHIELD was fantastic towards the end of season one, I will give Agent Carter a shot and probably the pilot of ‘Fresh off the boat’.

  2. Agree, Secrets and Lies looks three times better than the mess that was on Ten. Galavant would be a maybe, the rest a no. I want The Whispers to be good but I’m sure it’ll be the usual trope-filled twaddle.

Black-ish, Cristela, and Fresh Off the Boat – is this the season for shows about US minority families straddling the gulf between their cultural heritage and The American Dream? I note that they’re all comedies altho’ I prob should have put ‘comedies’ in quotes.

  3. I’ll check out Selfie, if only for Karen Gillan. Not sure about the others, still pissed at the number of first season shows that were canceled this year, shows I liked and could watch for many years.

  4. Secrets and Lies looks awesome. Can’t wait to see it. I love Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and can’t wait for Agent Carter. The other show that looks half decent is Galavant and The Whispers from ABC. The rest seriously they created a tv show called Selfie? Fail.

  5. Damn that tease for secret and lies is so much better then ours. It makes me want to watch this version even though I know what happens. They’ve casted the detective very well, much better then ours. It’s gunna be good seeing how they tell the story.
