Masterchef cracks the magic million for TEN

Ratings: Masterchef wins its timeslot and tops the demos on Thursday, and Sunrise enjoys a 2014 high.

Screen Shot 2014-05-09 at 10.18.54 am.jpgWithout The Voice and House Rules to contend with on Thursday, MasterChef Australia enjoyed some oxygen last night.

The show pulled 1.00m viewers, won its timeslot and topped the demos. It was good news all round, save for the first eliminated contestant, Brendan Langfield from Queensland. TEN should buy him a bottle of bubbly for his ratings help.

There was also news worth noticing in morning television. Sunrise at 406,000 whacked Today on 317,000 -Seven’s best performance all year, in a week in which the competition has been enjoying Voice contestants.

Nine network won again with a share of 26.4% then Seven 25.9%, TEN 22.6%, ABC 19.0% and SBS 6.0% -the kind of even shares that pretty much reflect the landscape we were used to 3 years ago.

Nine is on track to take out its first ratings week of the year.

Nine News was 1.15m / 1.08m for Nine then A Current Affair (909,000), The Footy Show (651,000), Hot Seat (620,000), Top Gear (583,000 in 3 cities) and Two and a Half Men (292,000).

Seven News (1.1m / 1.02m) was best for Seven then Home and Away (909,000), Under the Hammer (524,000), Million Dollar Minute (493,000), Border Security (475,000 in 3 cities). Intelligence was 351,000 / 240,000.

Following Masterchef‘s million were The Project (676,000 / 430,000), TEN Eyewitness News (614,000) and Law and Order: SVU (581,000 / 391,000).

ABC News (848,000) was best on ABC1 then Call the Midwife (802,000), 7:30 (762,000), The Checkout (656,000) and Births Deaths and Marriages (457,000).

Luke Nguyen’s France (314,000) led SBS ONE then French Food Safari (282,000), Jonathan Phang’s Gourmet Express (210,000), Fargo (204,000) and SBS World News (126,000).

Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom (297,000) topped multichannels.

  1. Edit: Neighbours was 678,000

And from Thursday 13th May 2010
17:00 Ten News At Five = 879,000 (won TP and all demos)
    18:00 The Simpsons = 652,000 (won 16-39)
    18:30 Neighbours = 615,000 (won 16-39)
    19:00 The 7PM Project = 895,000 (won all demos)
19:30 MCA = 1,580,000 (won TP and all demos)
20:00 Glee = 1,231,000 (won TP and all demos)
    21:00 L&O: SVU = 738,000
    22:00 Medium = 515,000

  2. .5 difference between seven and 9, before you know it seven will be taking out ratings every week again. Nine hasn’t even one atleast a week of ratings for 2014 ahahaha

  3. So proves what we have said for months now, don’t put it against competition and people will watch, now the whole 7pm thing becomes more interesting

  4. They won’t do it but I think Seven should consider airing HR Mon-Thurs instead of Sun-Wed. I think it would rate better on Thursday and the Reveal episode would probably do better on a Tuesday.

  5. MCA and MCP did significantly better when they weren’t up against Seven and Nine’s big guns. And the ratings of their main channel jumped then Seven and Nine rested content during the first week of Easter non-ratings.

They have done better starting MCA against the start of House Rules. It is beating it in Sydney and Melbourne at times, but still running 3rd overall.
They had to take beating for SYTYCD? and BL in the first part of the year though to time things this way though.

  6. @deedeedragons And what does Ten do next? Takes MCA out of its schedule for next Thursday,( when obviously it does better when it doesn’t have the Voice nor House Rules to contend with.)
