Pensioner to PM: “You’re a comedian.”

Video: A pensioner named Vilma took PM Tony Abbott to task this morning on Wake Up (updated).

A pensioner named Vilma took PM Tony Abbott to task this morning when she questioned him on the Budget during an interview on TEN’s Wake Up.

Tony Abbott politely rebuffed by suggesting she was not a Liberal voter, which didn’t go down too well.

“Excuse me, it’s got nothing to do with who I vote for and who I don’t vote for,” she asked.

“Why are you picking on pensioners?”

“This is a fair budget, everyone is doing his or her bit, including, dare I say, politicians,” Abbott replied.

“You’re a comedian, sir you’re a comedian!” she insisted.

Update: Vilma Ward is attracting comment on Twitter for her TV appearance this morning. While some note her years of pensioner advocacy, others question possible allegiances.

TV Tonight is seeking further clarification from TEN.

  1. How on earth does it matter who she votes for? She’s a constituent, a citizen, the government is *supposed* to be looking after those, *not* corporations.

  2. As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t matter if she’s a Labor supporter, a Liberals supporter, a Greens supporter or a donkey voter. The government’s elected to serve the people, not just the people that voted them in. They should be working to make everyone’s happy, not just their fans. Not sure what her political allegiances have to do with it.

  3. But Vilma, “politicians are going to forgo their pay increase in July”. This is the increase that the Remuneration Tribunal had already told them in April they weren’t going to get it. Just one more lie. What about cutting all the ongoing payments to politicians no longer employed by taxpayers (phones, offices, staff, cars, trips etc). When I leave my employer he certainly does not continue to pay me?
In a debating comp. my $ would be on Vilma.
