Renewed: Parenthood, Parks & Recreation -both for final seasons.

Two US shows will return on Seven, but for their last ever seasons.

Parenthood, which has a season finale this week on Seven, will return for a sixth and final season of 13 episodes. The renewal follows cast negotiations with the Hollywood Reporter noting they had been asked to take a pay cut to make the show “more economically feasible.” For the past few seasons, the series -which doesn’t generate strong overseas revenue- was saved by a deal with Netflix.

NBC also confirmed a seventh and final season for Parks and Recreation.

“We have several of our strongest comedies by some of our best auspices being held for midseason, including the final season of Parks and Recreation,” NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said.

Despite middling ratings, the show has been critically received, with Amy Poehler winning a Golden Globe, plus Emmys nominations. Historically, Parks and Recreation also got a timeslot boost by the network after the failure of the US Kath and Kim.

  1. Saw the news this morning, so good they can now end both shows properly, shame they couldn’t do the same with Community.

Also good to hear the news about Cougar Town, must have missed it over the weekend, sorry David.

  2. What Jennifer is really saying is that they are making another season of Parenthood and Parks and Recreation to replace their Fall failures mid-season because we are a worried that their new midseason replacements would be even worse!
