Secrets and Lies looks set to have a more successful US season than its original Australian season, after ABC picked it up as a series.
The drama, based on Hoodlum’s series starring Martin Henderson, stars Ryan Phillippe as the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy. Juliette Lewis and Indiana Evans also appear in the drama from ABC Studios and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
ABC originally picked up the series with a 10-episode commitment but had not been approved for series.
The Australian season, which premiered in February, had a disappointing run whilst performing on the struggling TEN network.
There aren’t many Australian shows that are viewed more successfully as adaptations than their original run, Wilfred would be one, but this may prove to be another.

What’s the bet Seven will air this, its wildly successful and takes viewers away from Ten. So in the end Ten shouldn’t have bothered making it. What a pessimistic view I know!
Always nice to see Juliette Lewis.
Ten’s version would have been fine, if three things where different.
1: Better acting, they were dreadful.
2: Better directing, to get better acting
3: A sensible ending
I agree, US remakes are often pointless and usually not as good as the original. However, Secrets and Lies was so dull, corny, and unbelievable that there’s a very good chance that the remake will be better.
Usually i am against US remakes, but this one i’m ok with. the ten version had an interesting enough storyline but the production did not have any aussie charm or x factor. I think Ryan Phillippe will do a better job than Martin Henderson.
If i recall correctly the australian version had alternate endings ready to go, wonder if the US version will choose a different ending.
I hope so. Ours was weak.
Not only that.. but the cruel irony for Ten is that it will likely show on Seven and be a ratings hit for them

Really don’t know about the US and it’s insistence on re-making everything.
They really are missing out on other cultures, perhaps that is the aim, the more insular they become, the easier it is to fool the people.
Or it could just be like Victorians, if it is not made in Melbourne they don’t watch, I don’t know.
Watching shows like Real Humans, Rex in their original languages (yes, I like to read a good tv show) gives them an extra edge that I enjoy.
Rant out of the way, Indiana Evans getting the role of the daughter is strange, hated her in Crownies/Janet King, her acting was….. stilted?, maybe she just has to fit the bikini.
I wonder who will air it here.
