Selling Houses Australia becomes highest rating series in Foxtel history

No longer just bigger than Game of Thrones, LifeStyle's show breaks Subscription TV records.

2014-05-22_1159A few weeks ago I noted Selling Houses Australia was “bigger than Game of Thrones” on Foxtel.

Now the show has become the highest rating series in subscription television history, according to Foxtel.

Season 7 attracted a cumulative average audience of 603,000 viewers per episode, making it the highest rating season of any series, in subscription television history. Those numbers include all the various playouts of the show on LifeStyle channels.

In its premiere timeslot of Wednesdays at 8.30pm it saw a combined average audience of 213,000 viewers, a series high.

LifeStyle Channels General Manager, Hannah Barnes, said: “The performance of Selling Houses Australia season 7 has been absolutely phenomenal, and we couldn’t be prouder. It’s a testament to the wonderful team at Beyond Productions, our much-loved presenters Andrew, Charlie and Shaynna and the everyday Australian’s that continue to allow us in to their homes, to tell their stories.”

For its seventh season, the series was extended to 13 episodes, culminating in the team’s biggest makeover yet, a pub in the Victorian town of Alexandria. The series featured properties from all over Australia including: a million dollar waterfront mansion; a house that’s taken 27-years to build; an owner with pink and purple hair to match her pink and purple house; a host of dated and daggy time warp tragedies and every home in-between, that no one can sell and no one wants to buy. Once again, the Selling Houses Australia team of host Andrew Winter, interior designer Shaynna Blaze and landscape designer Charlie Albone, pulled out all the stops to turn them in to saleable properties with spectacular results.

It received its peak audience in episode 12 – a waterfront mansion in Greenwich on Sydney’s north shore – with a combined average audience of 274,000. With 10 airings across the week, episode 12 drew a cumulative average audience of 722,000 viewers, a new record high for a subscription television series.

Across the entire season, Selling Houses Australia reached 2.6 million unique people, equivalent to 37% of all Foxtel subscribers.

Selling Houses Australia first premiered on April 23 in 2008. In six years, the team have performed makeovers on over 70 properties, all around the country.

Selling Houses Australia has taken home a swag of ASTRA Awards for Most Outstanding Lifestyle Program in 2009, 2010 and 2013 and Favourite Australian Program in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. Andrew Winter, has won the subscriber voted category of Favourite Male Personality for the last five consecutive years, and Shaynna Blaze has won the subscriber voted category of Favourite Female Personality for the last two years.

Selling Houses Australia is produced exclusively for Foxtel’s The LifeStyle Channel by Beyond Productions.
