Adelaide sports presenter quits TEN

Adelaide's Mark Aiston quits TEN Eyewitness News after 18 years, because of stress-related illness.

2014-06-04_1132Adelaide sports presenter Mark Aiston has quit TEN Eyewitness News because of stress-related illness, after 18 years with the network.

Adelaide Now reports the 30 year veteran, who also runs his own media training business, took two weeks leave from both the network and FIVEaa’s breakfast show about a month ago as his health worsened.

“I was fairly stressed … I just needed the time off, I wasn’t 100 per cent well,” he says.

“I’m not too bad now, I’m getting better. I just need to look after myself, simple as that.”

His decision comes a week before TEN is set to axe nine jobs in Adelaide, including 6 journalists, as part of national staff cuts.

His exit follows previous departures at TEN Adelaide by Belinda Heggen and Jane Reilly.

  1. I hope he is ok. I have worked with Mr Aiston on numerous occasions and he is the genuine article. What you see of him on the television is exactly as he is personally.

  2. Okay will do David,

I know 24 hours isn’t too bad, you just always seem to be first it amazes me! People tell me, did you hear about this? I usually had already been aware of it for at least 24 hours if not more.

    Keep up the good work!

  3. Not sure 24 hours is “very late,” the story was published by News Corp yesterday. I’m comfy as a one man site it was worth a run. Don’t forget you can always tip me to news too, cheers.

  4. Clearly Mark could see the writing on the wall. When the innitial News restructure at TEN happend a three or four years ago George Donekian went from Adelaide to Melbourne to partner with Helen Kapalos. TEN then gave Belinda Heggen a shot anchoring the News. When the change in admin came and those redundancies along with it Heggen also saw the writing on the wall. Surprised Aiston was kept. Anyway this goes to further compound problems for TEN.
