Margin Call features Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, Mary McDonnell, Simon Baker and Demi Moore.

The 2011 thriller is the first feature from writer/director JC Chandor, portraying the financial industry and its denizens as they confront the decisions that shape our global future.

It all takes place over 24 hours.

Saturday nights on SBS ONE continue to bring the best in movies with this week’s star-studded Oscar nominated thriller.

Set in the high-stakes world of the financial industry, Margin Call is a thriller entangling the key players at an investment firm during one perilous 24-hour period in the early stages of the 2008 financial crisis.

When entry-level analyst Peter Sullivan (Zachary Quinto) unlocks information that could prove to be the downfall of the firm, a roller-coaster ride ensues as decisions both financial and moral catapult the lives of all involved to the brink of disaster.

Expanding the parameters of genre, Margin Call is a riveting examination of the human components of a subject too often relegated to partisan issues of black and white.

  1. I missed this film when it aired on SBS that last time, but I tuned in to watch it last night. A great film.

    Great to see SBS airing some good movies of late.

  2. Saw this movie on Foxtel last year and it’s really good.

    I think it’s worth a shot for SBS to play these kind of independently made movies on a Saturday night. Great cast, critical acclaim, but not a lot of box office success. In a way, it’s perfect for television.

    Can SBS successfully promote what they are screening to a more general audience is the question.
