Airdate: The Tunnel

2014-06-05_1156ABC1 is set to screen the UK-French adaptation of The Bridge ….known as The Tunnel.

Instead of a dead body found on the border of a bridge joining two nations, this time it’s a corpse in the tunnel in the Channel Tunnel (alas it seems they no longer refer to it as the ‘chunnel.’)

This is a 10 episode drama from KUDOS in association with CANAL+ Creation Originale, Shine Group and France Films and British Sky Broadcasting.

America also remade The Bridge set between Texas and Mexico.

The Tunnel is set against the backdrop of Europe in crisis. When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck (Stephen Dillane ) and Elise Wassermann (Clémence Poésyare) sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries.

The case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership. As the serial killer uses ever more elaborate and ingenious methods to highlight the moral bankruptcy of modern society, Karl and Elise are drawn deeper into his increasingly personal agenda.

9:30pm Sunday June 15 ABC1.

  1. Secret Squirrel

I really enjoyed the original so I’ll give this a chance to find its own space, altho’ I also wonder whether there will be much point if the script is the same.

  2. I was just reading about this show on a UK site and wondered if we would get it here. How weird to see this article here now. After investing in the Scandinavian version I’m not sure I can watch this one.

  3. I will watch it out of curiosity. I’m a fan of the Danish/Swedish one.

If I enjoy it, id watch it and compare it to the original. If it loses that magic touch from the beginning, then I wont bother. Wait and see, I guess.

  4. Many people say that its “same, same but different”
The plot is the same, how it ends is the same and we know why. But Sweden and Denmark are more friendly than the Brits and the French and thats the dynamic that is different nothing more.

  5. HardcorePrawn

Is there any word on whether this follows the exact storyline as the original?

If it’s the same then, aside from a slight curiosity value to see what these actors bring to the roles, I can’t see fans of the Swedish/Danish version bothering with it.

  6. The looks promising, thought the lead characters will have mighty big shoes to fill.
Comparisons with the unforgettable Saga and Martin will be inevitable.
(Thought that was Robson Green for a minute there in the above promo pic.)
