wimbledon-gSeven’s broadcast of Wimbledon 2014 gets underway from Monday June 23, hosted by Todd Woodbridge with commentary from John Newcombe, Rennae Stubbs, Sam Smith and Geoff Masters.

BBC commentators include John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Jimmy Connors, Martina Navratilova and Lindsay Davenport.

During the first week the live broadcast kicks off at 8.30pm (AEST) on 7TWO before switching to Channel 7 later at night.

From Day 8 to Day 11 the coverage begins at 10pm on 7TWO, before switching to Channel 7 later.

All singles and doubles finals, as well as the singles’ semi-finals, will be exclusively live on Channel 7, starting on 7TWO.

Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, said, “As always at Wimbledon on Seven, tennis fans will see the best two matches live and free each day on 7TWO or Channel 7, along with plenty of other top matches. And of course we’ll keep viewers up to date with all the results and happenings around the courts.”

  1. If Seven is serious about “HbbTV” then surely Wimbledon is the perfect shop window for it. The BBC is using it in the UK to offer 12 streams this year (in HD) and Seven would surely need to do little more than rebroadcast them and insert the ads.

  2. I don’t like having to switch channels in the middle of a match or any broadcast – it’s annoying.

    In terms of HD, I like how SBS’s HD channel is simply called SBS HD and, although it’s mostly a simulcast of SBS ONE, on Friday nights it would switch over to SBS2 for the A-League games. That’s what I think networks should probably do – have a separate HD channel to simulcast “premium” content from one of their multichannels.

  3. HD!!! HD!!! HD!!! Why is every time there’s a sports telecast story on this site there’s always someone pointing out its not in HD. It’s good enough in SD. It’s like buying ice cream and complaining there’s no sprinkles.

    1. Not sure it is exclusive to this site, as other research would indicate. But it is a reasonable request of sports fans, especially given networks have previously promised this would be delivered (ie. David Gyngell at NRL press conference). Seven also makes much of its sports brand but continues much of it in SD. TEN recently indicated it was pursuing govt approval to switch its main channel to HD. I think ultimately this is a better outcome: that premium content, not just sport, is in HD in 2014.

  8. Why tease us with the BBC commentary team when we’re stuck with Newk talking endlessly about Lleyton Hewitt, no matter what match he’s watching?
