Helen JacksonBBC Chief Content Officer, Helen Jackson, will give a keynote address at the ASTRA Conference 2014 in Sydney in September, themed ‘Game of Change.’

Her keynote will outline how the BBC is responding to changing tastes, and how content is created, consumed and delivered to audiences.

Also speaking will be Richard Freudenstein, Foxtel; Doug Pieffer, OzTAM; John McAvoy, Eyeworks; Kylie Washington and Penny Champan, Matchbox; Jo Porter, Freemantle; and Shaun James, Presto.

ASTRA CEO Andrew Maiden said “Subscription TV will this year celebrate its twentieth year in Australia. The television industry has been enjoying a ‘golden age’ because it has understood and embraced the deep human need for stories told as a way of understanding and interpreting the world.

“But change is upon us. The rapid march of technology is transforming the industry, changing the way content is created and scheduled, the platforms that distribute it, as well as audience behaviour and how it is measured.”

And the amount of original Dramas they have created can be counted on one hand.

Foxtel needs to invest more money into their own original Dramas and Comedies. Instead of relying heavily on American imports that get canned after the first season and British shows that have been repeated to death.

After 20 years it’s not good enough.
