David Beckham Into The Unknown premieres in the UK next week, as a 90 minute special.

ABC will premiere it at 8:30pm Wednesday June 25. ABC is understood to be retreating from its traditional comedy line-up on Wednesdays for the immediate future, with more docos tipped to follow. The final Jonah from Tonga airs next week.

6 more unaired Spicks and Specks episodes will screen later this year.

Follow David Beckham and his friends, Derek White and Dave Gardner, as they set out on an unforgettable journey through the tropical Amazon rainforest to discover the ‘real’ Brazil.

Beckham flies 5,000 miles from London to South America, staying briefly in Rio de Janeiro and then on to Manaus in the heart of the rainforest. From there he and his friends, Derek and Dave, travel by motorbike and boat, guided by locals as they visit the tiny community of Angelin, cross the river Negro to the banks of the Cuieras River and travel deeper into the rainforest to meet the remote Yanomami tribe.

World renowned filmmaker Anthony Mandler uses the latest Red Epic filming technology to capture the exploits of Beckham and his friends.

  1. Nothing wrong with comedy on Wednesday night on the ABC – just need to put some actual comedies on.

Earlier series of Would I lie to You and 8 Out of 10 Cats would be pretty cheap and they’re mostly hilarious. Or Mock of the Week or Hillsy’s The Last Leg at 8:30 instead of most people’s bedtime.

  2. Anthony Mandler is fairly prolific in the music video scene, and he did start out as a photographer. Combine this with the filming equipment, and the series will probably be packaged really well. (For a fly-on-the-wall travelogue that is.)
But David Beckham as the subject..I’m not sure?
