Game of Thrones …that was a helluva season!

Still reeling from Joffrey's death? Then we had the Finale (make sure you have viewed before clicking).

2014-06-16_2201Whether you were after the big battle scenes, the jaw-dropping turning points, the gore, sex, power games or searing performances, this year Game of Thrones pretty much had it all.

It was cinematic television.

Still reeling from Joffrey’s death? What about that lavish battle of the Wall last week? There were the dazzling speeches from Tyrion -and yesterday they were left to cap it all off.

It’s hard to go past the death of Lord Tywin at the hands of his own son (and what a choice of venue). It had been a long time coming.

We had Cersei and Jaime casting aside respectability for a horny, full-bore display of passion. No more keeping up appearances.

Brienne and The Hound let rip in a bloody battle that left no room for gender niceties.

And skeletons busting through an icy ground like zombies in a graveyard turned on the FX and spectacle.

But I was sorry to see the dragons under collar and key by an upset Daenerys. They’ve been under-utilised this season at the very time, as episode one reminded us, they had matured.

Killing off key characters is never done lightly in television and while GOT adheres to the work of George R.R. Martin, it’s been a bloody brilliant season.

What was your highlight?

  1. Rutzie – absolutely agree – death of the season for me.

I kind of miss Joffrey – yes he was an evil bastard but Jack Gleeson played him with great humour and I think that is kind of missed now from the Kings Landing scenes, and will be even more so without Tyrion there next year.

Just hope now a brilliant series isn’t ruined by being dragged out too long – already getting a bit bored of the Daenerys thread. It’s great that Game of Thrones isn’t afraid to give storylines time to breath and drop them and come back to them as time dictates, but it feels like her storyline hasn’t moved on at all this year.

  2. Agree with all of the previous highlights, my favourite was the Purple Wedding because, and I can’t believe it in this age of social media, I never saw it coming! Makes me feel all warm a gooey inside…

  3. My highlight was during the battle of Castle Black when one of the giants shot a massive arrow at the top of the wall and sent one of the night’s watch flying.

  4. Tyrion’s Speach was pretty epic! I’m hoping for an Emmy there??

But I cant go past as my favourite moment, that head popping! Even though I loved Oberon, it was a pretty amazing end to an episode!

  5. Hard to pick as there was so much that was truly wonderful in this season! Happy that Joffrey is dead, happy that Jon has survived, happy that Tyrion also has survived. Actually a bit sad to see Tywin gone as he was such a great (evil) character. Ditto the Hound.
However I really loved how Sansa has evolved, and also really enjoyed her aunt’s flying lesson.

  6. Joffrey’s death was definitely the best scene for me — I was so relieved and pleased that this vicious, evil character was finally dead.

Next was Tyrion’s incredible speech at his trial, a perfect blend of brilliant writing and acting.
