Munro, Wilkins, Dr. Harry in Queen’s Birthday honours

Television personalities have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday 2014 Honours List today including Mike Munro, Richard Wilkins and Dr. Harry Cooper.

TEN Eyewitness News presenter Mike Munro, was appointed a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his service to journalism and for his charity work.

Munro, who spent 12 years in newspapers before TV role with 60 Minutes, This Is Your Life, A Current Affair and Sunday Night, has worked with several Australian charities involving most notably the disadvantaged youth and the disabled.

Munro said of the appointment: “Our whole family is blown away by this wonderful honour.”

Today‘s Richard Wilkins, 59, was made a Member in the general division of the Order of Australia for his service to the entertainment industry and charities.

“My son Adam has Down’s syndrome. When he was born I was 18 and I got a lot of wonderful help from people in the early days,” he told News Corp.

“I know the support I’ve had with Adam and it is nice to be able to pay it back. It is a great honour to be given a pat on the back for doing that.”

Better Homes and Gardens‘ Dr. Harry Cooper was recognised for service to veterinary science and animal welfare but told news.com.au “I think we should be a Republic, quite honestly and not as we are, beholden to the Queen. I’ve got nothing against the Queen, lovely lady and all that sort of stuff but I think we need to grow up. It’s time to make our own way in the world.”

Australian Film, Television and Radio School head and former ABC Head of Drama Sandra Levy was recognised along with Seekers stars Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley.

Other Arts and Media-related names include Ray Warren, Angela Catterns, Rob Weekes, Virginia Haussegger, Paul Grabowsky, Deborah Cheetham, John Frost, John Kirby, Eleanor Witcombe, Lyndon Terracini, Rosemary Barr, Vaughan Hinton, Timothy Gavel, Garry Frost, Giles Tanner and the late Keith McGowan.
