OzTAM reissues World Cup ratings for SBS

It's official. The Aus v Chile match pulled 1.74m viewers after OzTAM reissues data, due to coding.

2014-06-16_1135The World Cup did fantastic business for SBS on the weekend but a quick glance at preliminary Overnight ratings (714,000 for Aus v Chile match) would suggest it should have gone higher.

However, OzTAM has this morning reissued data which shows it lifted to a whopping 1.74m viewers -easily the best number for SBS in a very long time.

So why the discrepancy?

SBS coding did not break out individual games.

An SBS Spokesperson told TV Tonight,  “Though the individual games were coded in the secondary description for live matches we recognise this information was not being captured as intended causing confusion and has been rectified for all future reporting ensuring all the excellent ratings The World Cup Coverage has achieved will be understood and celebrated.”

1.74m of course also does not factor in those who watched at group venues, and SBS notes it lifted to 2.28m including Regional viewers.

Revised data is as follows:

  1. I am lovin the World Cup coverage on SBS its brilliant .the football is also fantastic brilliant games being played .1.74 million viewers for 8am on a Saturday morning is brilliant .read and weep rugby league and aussie rules .soccer rules .

  2. Thanks for clearing this up, David.

I do hope that SBS does end up coding each game, starting from tonight. There’ll be plenty of comments asking why not if its not done (like there was for Saturdays ratings: Australia’s game. lol)

  3. Fantastic numbers for SBS. Showing sport properly (live, ad free, HD). About the only criticism I have is there’s too much social media stuff there but who doesn’t have that these days??
Are SBS planning on coding the games separately from now David?
