Perth councils goin’ on down to South Park

Will the merger of South Perth and Victoria Park result in the City of South Park?

South-ParkResidents of Perth could be goin’ on down to South Park in a proposed council name is adopted as part of a local government merger.

South Perth and Victoria Park councils could amalgamate under local changes, and emerge as the City of South Park.

AAP reports a substantial number of locals preferred the name over South Bank, favoured by the Town of Victoria Park.

Victoria Park Mayor was cited as saying: “If it weren’t for that funny cartoon it would actually be a pretty good name.”

Of course we already have Springfield in 4 Australian states without too much angst.

I say, bring it on and install Mr. Garrison in as mayor.

  1. Heh, it was what I voted for. Significantly, it wasn’t one of the 4 names on the voting form, so it had to be written in.

Also, South Perth and Victoria Park are not being forced to merge. They are the only two metro councils to have agreed on a merger and submitted a joint proposal to govt.

The dispute arises from the minister trying to abolish S.Perth, have it taken over by Vic Park, and excising the casino and football stadium and giving them to Perth Council on the other side of the river as part of a land and rates grab by that council.
